CCC NEWS & VIEWS 7-31-03
 By NM Leland Fuerstman
Curcuru Still Leads Top; Savage? "B"; PeBenito "C"; Villone Lower Section of Wendy's XLVII
Charlotte, NC 7-30-03: A rather light turnout of only 34 of the greater Charlotte area's most inundated competitors parked their vessels at this boat dock of higher thinkers more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:4 of Wendy's XLVII. In the Top Section, Michael "See You Are; See You Are You" Curcuru (1876) requested and was granted a half point Bye to lead with 3-1. Meanwhile, NM Leland "Boss" Fuerstman (2017) attempted to win, but was unable versus NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) (See Game 0324) as Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1931) also nicked NM Justin "Dog" Daniel (2215) for a Draw. In addition, CCC Favorite Son, 2003 Scholastic Champion, 17 year old phenom Expert Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2128) was upset brilliantly by Jesse "Skip-to-my" Liu (1860). In the "B" Section, "C" player Michael "the Savage" Savage (1588) chopped down Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi (1721) to lead with 3.5-.5. Meanwhile, Danesh "DD" Dadgar (1647) exposed the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1684), Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1706) beat down Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1658) and Jeremy Davenport (1698) accepted a time scramble gift from Marnzell Hand (1600)(See Game 0323). In the "C" Section, though he did not move a pawn,Dino PeBenito (Unr) still leads with 3-0. Also, Chris "Dirty Harry" Callahan (1661) made his day against David "Dipper" Conard (1551), Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1543) placed the head of Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1561) between two symbols, Kevin Huang (1406) bested Tim "the Chin" Chen (1412) and Kaled Abdelkefi (Unr) defeated Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1405). In the Lower Section, leader Laura Lee (1287) was routed by Jared "Codes" Morse (1419) allowing Sean "the Villain" Villone (674?) who defeated Joe Shirlen (1091) to lead with 3.5-1.5. Other Lower Section winners were: CCC Player Representative Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla, Michael "Clint" Easterwood, Cabot Lineberger and Tom Chen. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable." Visit the CCC Message Board and speak to us!! New Time Control of G70 for Next Smokehouse Saturday, Aug 16 - See ya there! Fuerstman, Curcuru Share Top Honors;  James, Ulaky, Suess, Hicks Lower Section of Smokehouse XLI
Charlotte, NC 7-19-03: Twenty-three competitors from at least 3 states journied to the Queen City and participated in Smokehouse XLI. In the Top Section, 2002 NC Hall of Fame inductee, current CCC Co-champion, NM Leland "Boss" Fuerstman (2017) dispatched of Jeremy Davenport (1698), Drew with NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) and finally defeated SC Expert Keith "Kevin" Eubanks (2062) (See Game 0319) to score 2.5-.5 and share =1st-2nd Place with Michael "See You Are; See You Are You" Curcuru (1876). Curcuru took out Michael "the Savage" Savage (1549), Drew with veteran Robert C. Moore (1700) (by the skin of his teeth, I might add) and defeated Patrick "Flunker" McCartney (1931) in the final round. Each pocketed $75. In the Lower Section, [USCF Non-Member] Adam "Jesse" James (1594), Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1561), John "Dr" Suess (1539) and Tony "the Tiger" Hicks (1209) each scored 2.5-.5 and took home $37.50To view complete crosstable (Click Here) (Fuerstman directed) Next Smokehouse August 16.
