Lower Section of Wendy's LXIX - $300
Bonus Paid!! McCartney/Braband Wedding is Planned!
Charlotte, NC 9-15-05: A grand total of 55 of the Metrolina
area's most creative calculators converged upon this festive arena
where young couples fall in love more commonly known as Wendy's
in order to participate in Wendy's
LXIX.
(Thanks to the
generosity of honorable chess phil- anthropist SCCA President James
MacDougall, in order to show his gratitude for
the many CCC members who continue to participate in SCCA events, a
drawing by lot was conducted whereby Patrick McCartney, Donald Hofer and NM Leland Fuerstman each won $100 cash!!) In the Top Section, the CCC's #2 player, the pride of Crouse, NC, NM Frankie "Neutrino"
Newton
(2301) AKA "the Gladiator," vaulting from
a full point behind the field, actually finished a full point ahead of
the field! after polishing off NM Leland "Perro Grande" Fuerstman
(2003) in the final round. His score of 4-1 earned
him $50
and Free Entry
into Bertucci's III this Saturday, September 17. Equal 2nd-4th
with 3
points were Fuerstman, Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2162) and NM Justin "Dawg" Daniel (2192) who defeated Mabe in
the final round. In addition, Gary
"the Nuisance" Newsom (1987)
somehow survived against "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1821) and Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (1989) outplayed Expert
Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (2048). {Yes, the rumor is true; Patrick McCartney
is engaged to marry Amanda Braband,
and she has the ring to prove it!} In the "B" Section, despite the fact that
she lost to Chris "Dirty
Harry" Callahan (1773) in the
final round, Laura "Karate
Kid" Lee (1777) finished =1st-3rd Place with Ken "the not so Terrible" Ivens (1767) and Amelia "Wheels" Wheeless (1640) who split the point
in the final each with 3-2. In
addition, Jonathan "the
Enforcer" Munnell (1785) used
kryptonite on mild mannered Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1808), Donald "Trump" Hofer (1635) fired Ankit "Butch"
Jivan (1649) and Marty "Fritz"
Katz (1745) made
peace with Jonathan "Henry" Hudson (1692). In the "C" Section, Dave "Ameen" Eadie (1586) took down leader 10
year old Samuel "Reshevsky" Xin (1461) to share =1st-2nd Place with 3-2.

Russian" Ozherelyev (1568)
outmaneuvered Octavius "0-0" Obey (1497), Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1510) played taps for
Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1458) and Colette
"Wheels" Wheeless (1587)
yielded a Draw to Ervon
"Wooden" Nichols (1474). In
the Lower Section, dispite the fact that he
lost the final round to Copeland
Blackwell (1129), Chris
Kohlhepp (1283) shared =1st-2nd
Place with Wei Xin
(849) each with 4-1
