Charlotte, NC 9-21-05: A rather light turnout
of 27 of the most crafty
calculators in the Carolina's converged upon this hurricane relief
center more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in
Rd:1 of Wendy's 70! In the Top Section,
falling 1/2 point behind the field, the CCC's #2 player, the pride of Crouse, NC, NM Frankie "Neutrino"
"Newton"
(2301) AKA "the Gladiator,"
negotiated a strong storm surge in form of "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1821) who looted the
good Master for a Draw!
Meanwhile, Expert Gary "the
Nuisance" Newsom
(2006) handed
NM Justin "Dawg" Daniel (2192) (See Game 0512) his first loss in umpteen
years, Expert John M. Curcuru (2078) used kryptonite on
mild mannered Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1808), NM Leland "Perro Grande" Fuerstman (2003) caused Jonathan
"Henry" Hudson (1714) to drown in his own poluted river (See Game
0513) and Patrick
"Fabio" McCartney (2013)
shared the point with Laura
"Karate Kid" Lee (1788). In
the "B" Section, Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1649)
expatriated Viktor "the Mad Russian" Ozherelyev (1592), Amelia "Wheels" Wheeless (1627) rolled over Winfred
"Guns" Gatlin (1486) and Dave
"Ameen" Eadie (1573) fired
Donald "Trump" Hofer (1633). In the "C"
Section, 10 year old phenom
Samuel "Reshevsky" Xin (1496)
punctured the tires of Colette "Wheels" Wheeless (1573) and Chris Kohlhepp (1318) split the point with
Ervon "Wooden" Nichols (1474). In the Lower Section wins were
recorded by Amanda Braband, Copeland Blackwell and Doyle Dewbre. All

Chinese Army Invades Lower Section of
Bertucci's III
Charlotte NC 9-17-05: A grand
total of 17 chessplayers from as far away as China
travelled to the Queen City in order to participate
in Bertucci's III. In the Top Section,
CCC Favorite Son Expert Chris "the
Babe" Mabe
(2162) dispatched of Ken
"the not so Terrible" Ivens (1767) in Rd:1,
Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (2013) in Rd:2
and Michael "Jordan" Kliber (1913) in the final round to take clear 1st Place with 3-0 and
pocket $100.
Meanwhile, NM Leland
"Perro Grande" Fuerstman
(2003) defeated Jonathan "Henry" Hudson (1714) in Rd:1, issued a mercy Draw to top seed NM Justin "Dawg" Daniel
(2192) in Rd:2 (See Game 0510) and dominated Ken
"the Terrible" Ivens (1767) in Rd:3 (See Game 0511) to capture clear 2nd Place with 2.5-.5 and
take home $50.
In the Lower Section, =1st-2nd Place was shared by Kevin
"Spacey" Huang
(1598) and Samuel
"Reshevsky" Xin
(1496) each with 2.5-.5
