NEWS & VIEWS 9-29-05Fuerstman Leads Top; Jivan "B"; Nichols "C"; Dewbre Lower Section of Wendy's LXX; Fall Schedule Rounds now Begin at 7:30 sharp! Charlotte, NC 9-28-05: Another rather light turnout of 27 of the most gifted scientists in the Charlotte area gathered at this laboratory where chess brilliancies are formulated more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:2 of Wendy's LXX. In the Top Section, the CCC's #7 player, the pride of Mint Hill, NC, 
NM Leland "Perro Grande" Fuerstman (2024) ditched a couple of
Pawns before prevailing in the time scramble versus Expert Gary
"the Nuisance" Newsom (2000) (See Game 0514) to lead with 2-0.
Meanwhile, 1/2 point back, the CCC's #2 player, the pride of Crouse, NC, NM Frankie "Neutrino"
Newton (2303) AKA "the Gladiator,"
outplayed Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (2025), NM  Justin "Dawg"

gobbled Pawns versus Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2114), Tim Rankin (1838) busted Chris

point with new member Davidson College player Jim Dickson (1952). In the "B" Section, Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1649) caused Amelia "Wheels"
Wheeless (1627) to break an axle and leads with 2-0.  In addition, Marty
"Fritz" Katz (1760) made peace
with Laura "Karate Kid" Lee (1775). In the "C" Section, Ervon "Wooden" Nichols (1474) put a hurtin' on Dave
"Ameen" Eadie (1573) to lead with 1.5-.5.

Chinese Army Invades Lower Section of
Bertucci's III Charlotte NC 9-17-05: A grand total of 17 chessplayers from as far away as China travelled to the Queen City in order to participate in Bertucci's III. In the Top Section, CCC Favorite Son Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2162)  dispatched of Ken
"the not so Terrible" Ivens (1767) in Rd:1,
Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (2013) in Rd:2
and Michael "Jordan" Kliber (1913) in the final round to take clear 1st Place with 3-0 and
pocket $100.
Meanwhile, NM Leland
"Perro Grande" Fuerstman
(2003) defeated Jonathan "Henry" Hudson (1714) in Rd:1, issued a mercy Draw to top seed NM Justin "Dawg" Daniel
(2192) in Rd:2 (See Game 0510) and dominated Ken
"the Terrible" Ivens (1767) in Rd:3 (See Game 0511) to capture clear 2nd Place with 2.5-.5 and
take home $50.
In the Lower Section, =1st-2nd Place was shared by Kevin
