Taefi Stumbles, Newton Rumbles and Takes Lead in
Wendy's VIII
Twenty-eight
honest, co-operative, pleasant and well mannered chessplayers
converged upon our sacred venue on Wednesday evening in order to participate
in Rd: 4 of Wendy's VIII. In the Top Section, Expert Frankie
Newton (2155) performed a magic trick of his own as the aspiring master
Drew NM Leland Fuerstman (2010) from his 4 pawns down! Rd:3 adjournment.
(See Game 0068).
Newton's Rd:4 win over Tarokh Taefi (1745) has elevated
him into the lead with one round to go. Also in the Top Section,
15 year old phenom Justin Daniel (1921) defeated Hungarian Superstar
Andras Bader (1670) while NM Leland Fuerstman (2010) has adjourned a favorable
2 pawns up Knight ending versus Patrick McCartney (1763). In the
Middle Section, Mike Isner (1485) took care of upstart
Brandon Brown (1400) while CCC Internal Affairs Committee Chairman Paul
F. Lucas (1668) split the point with Doug "Skynet" Millsaps (1631).
Additionally, Mike Eberhardinger (1607) edged out Joe Feiler (1250).
In the Lower Section, Helton Clavijo (1287) and Timothy
Ruffin (1237) each have 3 points with wins over Kevin Smith (Unr) and
Alphonse Ashamalla (1260) respectively. Wins were also turned in by Sue
Vigeland, Ian Morton, Terry Brown, Daryl "Flash" Gordon, Michael Shoup
and Lee "R&Bman" Richardson. All results may be viewed in
Current Crosstable. The
CCC rewelcomes G. Scott Edmiston to our ranks.
Guess Who? Wins Midtown XXIV
Can anyone
stop him? Seemingly not. CCC favorite son William
F. "Frankie" Newton II (2155) kicked
butt again and pocketed $60. as he dispatched of Andras Bader (1670) and
Patrick McCartney (1763) before being slowed down by NM Leland Fuerstman
(2010) in the final round. For their second consecutive encounter,
Fuerstman, material up, could only manage to Draw. (That may be considered
a complement to his opponents good play). Placing equal 2nd-3rd were NM
Leland Fuerstman and Patrick McCartney each with 2-1 winning
$15. Fuerstman Directed.
Midtown XXIV, 3-SS, 30/1,G/15.

We Were Wrong!?!
A few weeks ago, it was reported that Expert Frankie Newton
had "probably" attained the necessary rating points required (2200) for
the title of National Master. However, to date, his highest
published rating is 2177. Though his rating has slipped a bit in
recent times, this author is certain that the day for official celebration
will come, soon. Go get 'em, Frankie!!

Newton Clear
1st In Fake Copper Blanket; T. Brown Sweeps Lower Section!
Team Charlotte kicked butt again last weekend
as Expert Frankie Newton (2155) crusied
into clear 1st Place with a final round Draw against Dr. Kenneth Ashkin
(2020) to score 3.5-.5 and bring home "the bacon." In the Lower Section,
CCC Legal Advisor Terry Brown, Esq. (835) vowed
to make "no mistakes" and won 4 consecutive games! to take clear 1st Place.
Congrats, guys. Bring back those rating points!!
