    Greetings from Charlotte N.C, USA, Earth to everyone out there in cyberia, and welcome to the Charlotte Chess Club website. We have finally entered the ultra modern age of instant communication. In this column, which is updated every Thursday, we will strive to report a weekly synopsis of the previous meeting to include current standings, annotated games, and other interesting anecdotes for your reading, viewing, and listening pleasure. Our goal is to eventually provide our members with a "realtime" site which will instantly produce current information about chess with the click of a mouse! We welcome your comments and contributions

Wendy's XXXII Begins
Charlotte, NC 1-23-02: Forty of the Metrolina area's most competitive calculators abandoned their TV sets and computer screens and instead participated in Rd:1 of Wendy's XXXII. In the Top Section, Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1896) leads the rest of the field by 1/2 point after his upset win over NM Garrick "Outlaw" Wells (2098). (In order to view one of McCartney's recent encounters (See Game 0198)). Meanwhile, NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) split the point with the CCC's #1 player NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2233), CCC Favorite Son, 18 year old phenom, Expert and soon to be Master Justin "Dog" Daniel (2182) drew with 15 year old phenom and soon to be Expert Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1992) and NM Leland "El-Presidente" Fuerstman (2024) did likewise with Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1767). In the Cruiserweight Division, "faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings with a single bound; Look, up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, it's" ...Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1748) whose brand of justice prevailed over Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1602). In the Middle Section, Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1637) defeated David "Richman" Richards (1615), Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1660) handled Deneil "Slick" Brazell (1491), "CEO" Mike Isner (1515) bought out Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1438) and Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1464) initiated Marat Kocharyan (Unr). In the Lower Section, wins were registered by: James "Bobby" Fisher, Alan Crombie, Paul "Johnny" Walker, Copeland "Copie" Blackwell, wife Sheila Blackwell, CCC Lower Section Representative Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla, Ankit Jivan, Kevin Huang, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin, Nathan "Techdude" Eerenberg and Clyde Plyler. All results may be viewed in the "Current Crosstable." Tapia Sweeps Top; Keller Lower Section of Smokehouse XXIII 
Charlotte, NC 1-19-02: Twenty-one weekend warriors participated in Smokehouse XXIII. In the Top Section, 15 year old phenom, Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1992) substantiated his claim to the Expert ranks by registering a perfect 3-0 with wins over Mike Eberhardinger (1609), NM Joseph Jurjevich (2122) and Gary Newsom (2013) respectively. For his superior effort, Tapia pocketed $100. Equal 2nd-3rd with 2-1 were NM Jurjevich and Newsom each winning $25. The Lower Section was dominated by Laurin Keller (1449) (and his trainer)from Greensboro who turned in a perfect 3-0 and won $100.
