NC 10-23-02: A grand total of forty-eight
of the county's most concise calculators converged
upon our factory of tacticians more commonly known as Wendy's in order
to participate in Wendy's XXXIX. In
the Top Section with 4-1,
tying for 1st Place for an unprecedented 5th consecutive time,
the CCC's #1 active rated player and current State Champion
NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2237) dispatched of Clarke "Kent"
Brosi (1851) while NM Harold "Wyn" Mouzon (2215) won
versus S.C. Expert Keith Eubanks (2003) and NM Leland "El-Presidente"
Fuerstman
(2026) mangled Robert C. Moore (1724) to each equal Newton's
4-1
score. In addition,
Patrick
"Flanker" McCartney (2006) "oofored"
Deneil "Sean" Brazell
(1776). To view one of McCartney's recent games (See
Game 0268) In the Middle Section,
though he lost
Rd:5 to Dave "RichMan" Richards (1665)
narrowly missing a $100 bonus,
Daryl
"Flash" Gordon (1644)  took
top honors with 4-1.
In addition, Brandon "Starr" Brown (1479) kayoed "Smokin"
Brian Fraiser (1637), Frank "Moo" Mu (1717) bested Dr. Gerard
Sztyber (1718), Danesh Dadger (1612) knocked off Viktor "the Mad
Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1602), Michael "Y" Shoup (1451) short
circuited Nate Eerenberg (1571) and Kermon Lane (1527) got by Tony
Hicks (Unr). In the Lower Section, though he lost Rd:5
to Frank "ChessMan" Johnson (1471) narrowly missing a $100
bonus, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1369)  took
top honors with 4-1.(To
observe Gatlin's Rd:4 effort (See Game
0266). Other Lower Section
winners were: Hassan Hashemloo, Mike Richards, Todd Essex,
Lee
"R&Bman" Richardson and David Adams. All results

in Top; Baker Perfect in Lower Section of Smokehouse XXXII
Charlotte,
NC 10-19-02: A rather light
turnout of 18 die-hard
chessplayers who
did not compete in the S.C. Championship nor Raleigh participated in Wendy's
XXXII.
In the Top Section, which was noticably absent of most of
Charlotte's top players, (some speculated that the fear of losing was
the reason) CCC Favorite Son, 16 year old phenom
Expert Daniel "Alfred E. Neuman" Tapia (2109)
dispatched of Scott Baldwin (1832) in Rd:1, Chris Mabe (1886) in Rd:2 and
finally NM Leland "El-Presidente" Fuerstman (2000) to score 3-0
and win $100.
Equal 2nd-5th with 2-1 were
Fuerstman(See
Game 0267),
Patrick McCartney,
Chris Mabe and Deneil Brazell each winning
$12.50.
The Lower Section was dominated by the good Reverend Bernard
Baker (1609)
who defeated Duncan McLaughlin, Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton and Hassan
Hashemloo to score 3-0
and pocket $80.
Equal 2nd-4th were Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton, Hassan
Hashemloo and Jonathan Munnell each with 2-1
winning $13.
