Charlotte, NC 10-5-05: A few strong players who arrived to observe and learn watched 26 of the Metrolina area's most proficient chessplayers square off at this arena where mental gymnastics are performed more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:3 of Wendy's LXX.  In
the Top Section, the CCC's #7 player, the
pride of Mint Hill, NC, NM Leland
"Perro Grande" Fuerstman
(2024) relinquished the exchange but ultimately
held the Draw with the Black side of a rarely seen Varisov's
Opening versus the CCC's
#2 player, the pride of
Crouse, NC, NM Frankie
"Neutrino" Newton
(2303) (See
Game 0515) to
now share the lead at 2.5-.5 with  Expert Michael
"See you are; See you are you" Curcuru
(2077) who outplayed Expert Gary "the Nuisance" Newsom (2000). In
addition, 2005 NC Class "A" Champion Gary "Sandbagger" Branton (1883) mawled Expert Patrick
"Fabio" McCartney (2025) while NM
 Justin
"Dawg" Daniel (2195) yielded a
Draw to 2005 NC Class
"B" Champion Jonathan "Enforcer" Munnell (1824). In the "B" Section, Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1649) held Marty "Fritz" Katz (1760) to a Draw and leads with
2.5-.5. In addition, Laura
"Karate Kid" Lee (1788)
roundkicked Jonathan "Henry" Hudson (1714) and Amelia
"Wheels" Wheeless (1627)
defeated Viktor "the Mad Russian" Ozherelyev (1592). In the "C" Section, Ervon "Wooden" Nichols (1474) made peace with Colette "Wheels" Wheeless (1573) to maintain a share
of the lead at 2-1
with Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1498) who played "Taps"
for Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1486). In addition, Drexall "Frank" Shorter (1485) outran Donald "Trump"
Hofer (1633). In the Lower Section, despite the fact that he
lost to Dyrus Wuor (1254), Doyle W. Dewbre (1031) maintains a
share of the lead with Amanda Braband
(741) each with 2-1.

Chinese Army Invades Lower Section of
Bertucci's III Charlotte NC 9-17-05: A grand total of 17 chessplayers from as far away as China travelled to the Queen City in order to participate in Bertucci's III. In the Top Section, CCC Favorite Son Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2162)  dispatched of Ken
"the not so Terrible" Ivens (1767) in Rd:1,
Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (2013) in Rd:2
and Michael "Jordan" Kliber (1913) in the final round to take clear 1st Place with 3-0 and
pocket $100.
Meanwhile, NM Leland
"Perro Grande" Fuerstman
(2003) defeated Jonathan "Henry" Hudson (1714) in Rd:1, issued a mercy Draw to top seed NM Justin "Dawg" Daniel
(2192) in Rd:2 (See Game 0510) and dominated Ken
"the Terrible" Ivens (1767) in Rd:3 (See Game 0511) to capture clear 2nd Place with 2.5-.5 and
take home $50.
In the Lower Section, =1st-2nd Place was shared by Kevin
"Spacey" Huang
(1598) and Samuel
"Reshevsky" Xin
(1496) each with 2.5-.5
