Newton Still Leads Top; Davenport?! "B"; Singleton, "C"; Claitt 4-0 in Lower Section of Wendy's LIII - "Technical Chess" Voted Down
Charlotte, NC 2-25-04:  A moderate turnout of 34 "non-technical" chessplayers who have mistakenly continued to adhered to the conventional principles of strategy and tactics gathered at this tribunal of chess authority more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:4 of Wendy's LIII. (The meeting was called to order and a motion was voted upon and passed 33-1 that "there will be no 'technical chess' played at the CCC"!? Lone dissenter, Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi said, "...I am offended; some of my best friends play 'technical' chess!") In the Top Section, the CCC's #1 player, NM Frankie "Blitzin" Newton (2263) having been denied the right to play "technical chess," was only able to Draw against non-technical chessplayer NM Leland "El-Jefe" Fuerstman (2019) but now leads his closest rivals by a full point with 3-1. In addition, NM Daniel "Schlechter" Liu (2036) split the point with Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1801). (Note: Due to a well organized boycott, all of the "technical chess" players in the Top Section were forbidden to participate in this round by their union leader!) In the "B" Section, Jeremy "Irons" Davenport (1603), who received a rare "field promotion" during the course of this tournament from the "C"s to the "B"s, played Danesh "DD" Dadgar (1712) to a Draw to lead with 3-1. Meanwhile, Viktor "the Mad Russian" Ozherelyev (1618) organized a coup' against Dave "Ameen" Eadie (1647), Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1647) did the cymbals thing to Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1607) and "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1704) was felled by Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi (1736). In the "C" Section, West Charlotte High School Chess champions Coach Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1501) ran a touchdown on Algie "Crumpler" Clyburn (1500) to lead with 3.5-.5. In addition, Tim "the Twin" Chen (1595) debunked Kert "the Oracle" Edward (1543), founder of the newly formed "Tiger Chess Club"Tony "Tiger" Hicks (1371) mauled Tom "the Twin" Chen (1495), Kevin "Spacey" Huang (1453) split the point with Kaled "the Alphabet" Abdelkefi (1525) as did likewise Clyde "the Glyde" Plyler (1503) with Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1510). In the Lower Section, vying for the $100 bonus!, Shawn "Penn" Claitt (1269) outplayed Joshua "Moo" Mu (1223) to remain as the only 4-0 in the tournament. ("No; I am not going to pair myself with Claitt next week...unless he requests it!) Other Lower Section winners were: Doyle W. Dewbre,Glen "Taco" Bell, Hassan "HH" Hashemloo and Ilgin "the Mad Turk" Birsan. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable." Visit the CCC Message Board and speak to us!! All welcome new member Jim Pendergrass. (Good Luck to Michael "the Savage"Savage who is in Russia participating in a chess symposium and tournament. Sources close to Savage report that he may defect?!) Next Smokehouse  Saturday, 3-20. Editor Needs Games; Please E-mail to: lelandfue@yahoo.com
Curcuru, Mabe Share Top Honors; Edward, Green Middle; Xin Lower Section of Smokehouse XLVIII
Charlotte, NC 2-21-04: A moderate turnout of 27 competitors from North and South Carolina journied to the Queen City in order to participate in Smokehouse XLVIIIIn the Top Section, Expert Michael "See You Are; See You Are You" Curcuru (2070) dispatched of Ken "the Terrible" Ivens (1744) and the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1851) before sharing the final point with Chris "the Babe" Mabe (1976) who registered wins against Mark Sturman (1750) and NM Leland "El-Jefe" Fuerstman (2019) (who for the second time in as many tries blundered away an equal game due to a minor distraction). Each scored 2.5-.5 and won $75The Middle Section honors were shared by Kert "the Oracle" Edward (1543) who defeated Algie "Crumpler" Clyburn (1500) and Dave "Ameen" Eadie (1647) prior to agreeing to Draw with "Mean" Matthew Green (1674) who got by Hayes "Let's Go" Bowling (1785) and Matthew "REman" Smith (1700). Each scored 2.5-.5 and won $75. In the Lower Section, Samuel "Shinn" Xin (536?) took a Bye and then rattled off wins against Patrick McGann (1140) and a disgusted Shawn "Penn" Claitt (1269) to score 3-0 and pocket $50. (Claitt should be admired for his restraint in not punching a 6 year old!?) To view complete crosstable (Click Here) (Fuerstman directed) Next Smokehouse March 20. See ya' there!
