Newton, Fuerstman Lead Top; Baker, Callahan, Ozherelyev
"B"; Huang "C"; Grechka, Nichols, Xin Lower Section of Wendy's LV
Charlotte,
NC 4-21-04: A reasonably strong turnout of
42
including some of the Charlotte area's more recalcitrant participants reported
to this factory of analytical genii more commonly known as Wendy's in order
to participate in Rd:2 of Wendy's LV.
In the Top
Section, the CCC's #1 player, NM Frankie
"Neutron" Newton (2242) yielded a draw to 7th
on the list of 17 year olds in the Nation,
CCC Favorite Son and three time NC Scholastic Champion Candidate
Master Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2157) and now shares the lead
at 1.5-.5
with NM Leland "Premier Hombre" Fuerstman (2000)
who sacrificed his Queen for R, B & N versus Patrick "Flanker" McCartney
(2011) and survived a rather complex middlegame; until the latter player
made a boo boo. (See
Game 0393) (Note:
Bad language is not permitted at the CCC).Meanwhile,
Chris
"the Babe" Mabe (2019) bested NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2037) and Tom
"Terrific"
Waymouth (2005) split the point with the good Reverend
Bernard
"King" Baker (1774)! In the "B" Section, Chris "Dirty
Harry" Callahan (1664) fought Viktor "the Mad Russian"
Ozherelyev
(1632) to a Draw to each lead with 1.5-.5.
In addition, Michael "the Savage" Savage (1686) drank the
martini of Mark "Shaken, not" Sturman (1709), Dave "Ameen" Eadie
(1650) made peace with Danesh "DD" Dadgar (1759) and Ankit
"Butch"
Jivan (1650) shook hands with Marnzell "Pat" Hand
(1600). In the "C" Section, 59th
on
the list of 11 year olds in the Nation Kevin "Spacey" Huang
(1441) bested
Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1533) to lead with 2-0.
In addition, Tom "the Twin" Chen (1536) picked off Phil Whittington
(1502), Jonathan "Lex" Hudson (Unr) outlasted 53rd
on
the list of 11 year olds in the Nation Michael
"Angelo" Easterwood (1474), 7th on
the list of 8 year olds in the NationJoshua "Moo" Mu
(1417) split the point with Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1524)
and Tim "the Twin" Chen (1560) drew with Shawn "Penn"
Claitt
(1216). In the Lower
Section, John "the Mad Siberian"
Grechka,
Ervon "Wooden" Nichols and
Samuel "Reshevsky" Xin
each have
2-0.

Top Honors; Davenport, Solarez Take Lower Section of Smokehouse #50!
Charlotte,
NC 4-17-04: A moderate
turnout of 24
competitors from North and South Carolina journied to the Queen City
in order to participate in Smokehouse L. On this festive
occasion, five
auspicious players received free lunches
as well as 2 Charlotte chess club tee
shirts won by Patrick McGann and Dr. Gerard
"the Butcher" Sztyber. An
enjoyable time was had by all! In the Top Section, member
of the NC Chess
Hall of Fame NM Leland "Premier
Hombre" Fuerstman (2000) of Charlotte dispatched of Robert C. Moore
(1700) and Expert Michael "See You Are; See You Are You" Curcucu (2056)
(See
Game 0392) before agreeing
to a GM Draw with Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (2011) of Charlotte
who bested Mark "Shaken, not" Sturman (1709) and Chris "the Babe" Mabe
(2019). Each scored 2.5-.5
and pocketed $75. In
the Lower Section, Jeremy "Irons Davenport
(1641) of Charlotte defeated Dave "Ameen" Eadie (1492) and Michael "Angelo"
Easterwood (1474) before playing to a Draw with Daniel Solarez (1682)
of Raleigh who handled Kevin "Spacey" Huang (1441) and Michael "the Savage"
Savage (1686). Each scored 2.5-.5
and took home $75.
