Middle; Joshua Mu 4-0!
in Lower Section of Wendy's XXXIV Charlotte,
NC 4-24-02: A rather healthy
turnout of 42
of the Metrolina area's most dedicated chess players abandoned their families
(except for Copeland Blackwell who's entire family competes weekly!) and
participated in Rd:4 of Wendy's XXXIV. In the Top
Section,
(because
of a dubious Wendy's management decision to throw us out at 10pm; a phone
call will be made tomorrow. LF) the hotly contested encounter between

and CCC Favorite Son, 17 year old phenom, Expert Justin "Dog" Daniel
(2164) has been adjourned with each player having Queen and 3 pawns. Meanwhile,
NM Garik "Outlaw" Wells (2082) outflanked Patrick "Flanker"
McCartney (1928) while NM Daniel "Schlecter" Liu (2009) shared
the point with Clarke "Kent"
Brosi (1802). In the Middle
Section, "Hell's
Kitchen" product Deneil "Sean" Brazell (1614) dunked on Frank
Mu (1541) to lead with 3.5-.5.

addition, Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1609) used his raygun on
Gennady Brazhnikov (Unr), Nathan "TechDude"

(1501) bested Michael "Y" Shoup (1550),
Jon "Cigars" Pietras
(1769)

Brown
(1508) initiated newcomer Hassan Hashemloo (Unr). In the Lower
Section,
6 year old phenom,
Joshua Mu (1076) remains as the lone 4-0
in the tournament after a convincing win over CCC Player Representative
Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla (1296). (The CCC pays a $100
Bonus for 5-0!) Other Lower Section
winners were: Winfred "Guns" Gatlin,
Lee "R&Bman"
Richardson,
Ankit
Jivan, Dr. Amir Farahany, Marat Kocharyan, Chris
"Dirty Harry" Callahan,

and Reid Ward. All results may be viewed in the "Current
