CCC NEWS &VIEWS 4-11-02
By NM Leland Fuerstman
Fuerstman Leads Top; Millsaps Middle; 3 Lower Section of Wendy's XXXIV
Charlotte, NC 4-10-02: Forty-two of the Metrolina area's most cunning calculators temporarily removed themselves from the direct proximity of their cathode tubes on Wednesday evening and participated in Rd:2 of Wendy's XXXIV. In the Top Section, the absence of Justin "Dog" Daniel (2166) and Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2036), both en route to the National Scholastic Championships, left NM Leland "Premier Hombre" Fuerstman (2018) to fight it out with David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1831). In the latter stages of the game, Jaap achieved a Drawn position but attempted to press on, ultimately leaving Fuerstman as the lone 2-0 in the Section. (See Game 0218)  Meanwhile, the CCC's #1 player, NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2216) out drove Expert Gary "Player" Newsom (2014) causing the latter to double-bogey while Draws were turned in by NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2010) vs. NM Garrick "Outlaw" Wells (2082) and Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1787) vs. Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1918). {"Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar..." Sigmond Freud} In the Middle Section, Captain Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1617) wreaked havoc upon Danesh "Ayatollah" Dadgar (1550) to lead with 2-0. In addition, Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1428) beat down Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1421), Frank Mu (1524) handled Bernard "Bman" Baker (1472), Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1609) used his raygun on Michael "You Know You Make Me Wanna" Shoup (1550), Algie "Van" Clyburn (1500) ethnically cleansed Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1550) and Nathan "TechDude" Eerenberg (1360) initiated a hostile takover of "CEO" Mike Isner (1638) (See Game 0219) . In addition, Draws were submitted by Deneil "Slick" Brazell (1557) vs. Gil "John" Holmes (1673) and Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1716) vs. Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1797). Leading the Lower Section with 2-0 are Kevin Blackwell, Joshua Mu and Robert "Dirty Harry" Callahan.Other Lower Section winners were: Winfred "Guns" Gatlin, Marat Kocharyan, Darrell "Wilkes" Booth, Gennady Brazhnikov, Ankit Jivan and Paul "Survivalist" Lucas. All results may be viewed in the "Current Crosstable." Visit the "new" CCC Message Board www.charlottechess.com/wwwboard and speak to us!!
