CCC NEWS &VIEWS 4-30-03
 By NM Leland Fuerstman
Wendy XLV Begins
Charlotte, NC  5-1-03:  "You look around and members are dropping out every week... 208.150.66.22" according to some confused miscreant on the "Message Board" a few weeks back, the CCC fell just one player short of breaking the all time individual round attendance record as 45 from the greater Charlotte area and parts beyond participated in Rd:1 of Wendy's XLV. ("Considering the overflow last night, I'm glad that all 130 members didn't show up!") In the Top Section, the CCC's #1 player, current NC State Champion NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2300) exacted a certain measure of revenge upon the player who halted his famous win streak, NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) to score the only win in the Section. Meanwhile, the contests between Chris "the Babe" Mabe (1993) and NM John "Night-Train" Lane (2090) and NM Leland "El-Duce" Fuerstman (2017) and Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1933) ended peacefully. In the "B" Section, Jackie "Bman" Ryan (1790) manhandled Tarokh Taefi (1724), Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1668) boyhandled Frank "Moo" Mu (1711), Bobby "Duck" Waddell (1740) out-thunk "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1701) and Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1674) excommunicated the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1691). In addition, a botched operation left the patient clinging to life with one minute left on his clock as CCC Medical Advisor Dr. Gerard "the Butcher" Sztyber (1769) split the point with "George C" Scott Baldwin (1768) as did Jerome "Cookie Monster" DeBell (1674) with Danesh "Schlecter" Dadgar (1624) who has assumed NM Daniel "Deep" Liu's sobriquet following his 7th consecutive Draw in CCC competition!! (Against much higher rated players). In the "C"Section, "CEO" Mike Isner (1487) deported Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1525), Chris "Dirty Harry Callahan (1572) spoiled the birthday party of #1 in the Nation, now 8 year old Joshua "Moo" Mu (1539) (Happy Birthday, Joshua!!) and Michael "the Savage" Savage (1420) savagely beat Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1405). In the Lower Section, wins were submitted by Anikit "Butch" Jivan, William Dewbre, Joe Shirlen, David Conard, Jared Morse, Glenn Bell and Richard "Gremlin" Tomlin. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable." All welcome new members Nathan Jarnagin,Tom Chen and  Tim Chen. Visit the "new" CCC Message Board and speak to us!! Moreira, Tapia, Copeland Share Top Honors; Ulaky Middle; Hicks Lower Section of Smokehouse XXXVIII
Charlotte, NC 4-19-03: Twenty-six congenial gentlemen from North and South Carolina  involved themselves in a minor skirmish just over of the State Line on Saturday as they participated in Smokehouse XXXVIII. In the Top Section, IM Jairo Moreira (2356) was unable to threepeat his "perfect" results as he dispatched of Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1967), NM Daniel Liu (2000) and Drew with  CCC Favorite Son, current NC Scholastic Champion, 16 year old phenom, Expert Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2123).Tapia defeated Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1862) and "George C" Scott Baldwin (1775) and Sam Copeland (1806) drew Keith Eubanks (2048), defeated Chris "the Babe" Mabe (1994) and Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1933) to each finish =1st-3rd with 2.5-.5 and take home $50. In the Middle Section, Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1407) upset Bernard "King" Baker (1679), Kermon Joel Lane (1487) and Daniel Marek (1341) to score 3-0 and pocket $100. Equal 2nd-5th with 2-1 and winning $12.50 were Bobby Waddell, Robert C. Moore, Bernard Baker and Daneil Marek. In the Lower Section, Tony "the Tiger" Hicks (1145) scored 2.5-.5 to take 1st Place and collect $60. Second Place winning $30. was Jonathan Roes (1163) with 2-1.
