Joshua Mu Takes 3rd Place in Nationals
Nashville, TN 5-10-03: Hundreds of scholastic players from all over the United States journied to the "music city" in order to participate in the National Scholastic Championships this past weekend. After 6 rounds of competition in the "K-3 Section" CCC future Favorite Son, 8 year old phenom Joshua Mu was the only player left with 6-0! Apparently the distraction of playing on the roped-off center stage table, cameras clicking and taping, and adversary Parker Zhao 1888 (a 3rd grader) caused Joshua to stumble in the final round. Still, his 6-1 score was good enough for clear 3rd Place in the Nation! In addition, his team, Barringer Academy placed 14th in the Nation. You have done the CCC proud!
Congratulations to Joshua Mu!!

Mabe Leads Top; Ryan "B"; Isner 3-0 in "C"; Conard, Morse 3-0 in Lower Section of Wendy XLV
Charlotte, NC 5-14-03:  A rather moderate turnout of only 30 of the Metrolina area's most creative thinkers converged upon our holy tabernacle of chessplayers more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:3 of Wendy's XLV. In the Top Section, Chris "the Babe" Mabe (1993) continued his dominance over NM Leland "El-Duce" Fuerstman (2017) to lead with 2.5-.5. Meanwhile, with less than 5 seconds left on each player's clock, the lively encounter between Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1931) and NM Daniel "Schlecter" Liu (2000) ended peacefully. In the "B" Section, Jackie "Bman" Ryan (1790) emerged victorious over  Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1668) to lead with 2.5-.5. In addition, "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1701) outlasted Tarokh Taefi (1721) and "George C" Scott Baldwin (1768) outplayed the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1691). In the "C" Section, "CEO" Mike Isner (1487) riddled Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1405) to lead with 3-0 while William Clayton (1468) deported Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1525). In the Lower Section, David "Dipper" Conard (1275) handled Richard "Gremlin" Tomlin (1314) and Jared Morse (1323) rang Glenn(s) Bell (1387) to each lead with 3-0. Other Lower Section winners were: Laura Lee, Mike Richards, Robert Albert, Brad Eppard and Jerry Cui. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable."
