Joshua Mu Takes 3rd Place
in Nationals
Nashville,
TN 5-10-03: Hundreds of scholastic players from
all over the United States journied
to the "music city" in order to participate in the National Scholastic
Championships this past weekend. After 6 rounds of competition in the "K-3
Section" CCC future Favorite
Son, 8 year old phenom Joshua Mu was the only player left
with 6-0! Apparently
the distraction of playing on the roped-off center stage table, cameras
clicking and taping, and adversary Parker Zhao 1888 (a 3rd grader)
caused Joshua to stumble in the final round. Still, his 6-1
score was good enough for clear 3rd
Place in the Nation! In addition, his
team, Barringer Academy placed 14th
in the Nation. You have done the CCC proud!
Congratulations to Joshua
Mu!! |

in Lower Section of Wendy XLV
Charlotte,
NC 5-6-03: Forty of the fiercest competitors in
the Metrolina area (and at least a half-dozen
visitors from another club) converged upon
our sacred temple of higher thinkers more commonly known as Wendy's in
order to participate in Rd:2 of Wendy's XLV. In the
Top
Section,
{sans the CCC's #1 player, current NC State Champion, NM Frankie "Blewit"
Newton (2300) whom because of some mysterious illness, requested and received
a half point Bye}, Chris
"the Babe" Mabe (1993) continued
his dominance over Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1931) to share the lead
with 1.5-.5. Meanwhile, NM
Leland
"El-Duce" Fuerstman (2017) attempted to convert a pawn up R &
P ending, but was unsuccessful versus "Drawing Master" NM
Daniel
"Schlecter" Liu (2000). In the "B" Section,
Jackie
"Bman" Ryan (1790) could only manage a draw with Bobby
"Duck"
Waddell
(1749) while
Slobodan
"the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1668) did the same with
Daryl "Flash"
Gordon
(1674) to each lead with 1.5-.5. In
addition, Tarokh Taefi (1721) survived a botched surgery by Dr.
Gerard "the Butcher" Sztyber (1764), "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1701)
rendered balled "George C" Scott Baldwin (1768) and the good Reverend Bernard
"King" Baker (1679) must be living right as his opponent, Danesh
"DD" Dadgar (1624) overlooked the Reverend's hanging piece ultimately losing.
In the "C" Section, Chris
"Dirty Harry" Callahan (1572) savagely beat Michael "the Savage"
Savage (1420) and seasoned veteran "CEO" Mike Isner (1487) handed
#1 in the Nation, 8 year old phenom Joshua "Moo" Mu (1539) his second loss
in as many weeks to each lead with 2-0.
Meanwhile, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1405) riddled Viktor "the
Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1525). In the Lower Section, Ankit
"Butch" Jivan, Richard "Gremlin" Tomlin, David
"Dipper" Conard, Tim Chen and Jared Morse each lead
with 2-0. Other Lower Section
winners were: Kevin Huang, Hassan Hashemloo, Laura Lee,
Tom
Chen and Greg Hollins.
