Fuerstman, McCartney Lead Top with 1.5-.5; Dadgar 2-0 in "B"; Ulaky 2-0 in "C"; 4 players 2-0 in Lower Section of Wendy's XLVI
Charlotte, NC 6-11-03: Neither SARS nor Monkeypox was enough to deter 42 of the Metrolina area's most affected energumens from navigating to this chess mecca more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:2 of Wendy's XLVI. In the Top Section, NM Leland "El-Duce" Fuerstman (2017) agreed to a Grandmaster Draw after 9 moves with the CCC's #1 player, current NC State Champion NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2309) to maintain a share of the lead with 1.5-.5. Meanwhile, Patrick "Flanker McCartney (1931) in the final moments of the game won what appeared to be a drawn ending versus NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) to share the lead. In addition, CCC Favorite Son Expert Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2121) bested Michael Tripp (1855). In the "B" Section, Danesh "DD" Dadgar (1624) employed weapons of mass distruction against the good Reverend Bernard "Joe Don" Baker (1718) to lead with 2-0. In addition, Bobby "Duck" Waddell (1749) did a duck walk on Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1669), Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi (1709) beat down Jackie "Bman" Ryan (1779), "George C" Scott Baldwin (1768) handled Marnzell Hand (1600), Sulia Mason (1782) edged out Jeremy Davenport (Unr) and "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1701) shared the point with Chris "Dirty Harry" Callahan (1572). In the "C" Section, Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1407) savagely beat Michael "the Savage" Savage (1466) to lead with 2-0. Meanwhile, Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1462) fired "CEO" Mike Isner (1562), and 3rd in the Nation in his age group, 8 year old phenom Joshua "Moo" Mu (1516) bested Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1405). In the Lower Section, CCC Player Representative Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla, Ankit "Butch" Jivan, Kevin Huang and Laura "Bruce" Lee each lead with 2-0. Other Lower Section winners were: David "Dipper" Conard, Brad Eppard, Patrick Sullivan and Robert Broadbent. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable." Tapia Wins Top; Davenport, Huang, James Share Lower Section Honors in Smokehouse XL
Charlotte, NC 6-14-03:  Twenty-three weekend  warriors from many origins cast away their golf clubs and participated in Smokehouse XXXXI. In the Top Section, the CCC's Favorite Son, current NC Scholastic Champion, 17 year old phenom, Expert Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2121) defeated Kermon Joel Lane (1477), Drew with Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi (1724) and dispatched of Matthew Smith (1616) (Wow, tough schedule!!) to capture 1st Place with 2.5-.5 and pocket $100. Equal 2nd-5th with 2-1 and winning $12.50 each were Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi (1724), Michael "the Lip" Lipkin (1712), Matthew "REman" Smith (1616) and Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1488) who amazingly upset NM Leland "El-Moron" Fuerstman (2017) in Rd:1. (See Game 0305) In addition in Rd:1, Michael "the Savage" Savage (1526) Drew with Daniel "Schlecter" Liu (2000).
