McCartney, Curcuru Lead Top; Taefi "B"; Brown, PeBenito "C"; Lee, Booth Lower Section of Wendy's XLVII
Charlotte, NC 7-16-03: An even 2 score (40) of the most prodigious competitors from North and South Carolina journied to this sacred temple of higher thinkers more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:2 of Wendy's XLVII. In the Top Section,Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1931) split the point with NM Daniel "Skip-to-my" Liu (2000) (See Game 0317) to maintain a share of the lead at 1.5-.5 with Michael "See you are; see you are you" Curcuru (1876) who upset NM Leland "El-Moron" Fuerstman (2017). In addition, SC Expert Keith "Kevin" Eubanks (2063) upended CCC Favorite son, NC Scholastic Champion Expert Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2121) (See Game 0315)while journeyman Erik Walker (1880) bested the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1684) (See Game 0316). In the "B" Section, Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi (1706) with 4 seconds left on his clock, converted an OCB's and Rooks ending versus Danesh "DD" Dadgar (1647) to lead with 2-0. Meanwhile, Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1706) schooled upstart Jeremy Davenport (1698), the player with the shortest last name defeated the one with the longest as Frank "Moo" Mu (1718) dispatched of "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1701), Chris "Dirty Harry" Callahan (1661) made his day against Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1658) and Michael "the Savage" Savage (1549) savagely beat Marnzell Hand (1600). In the "C" Section, Brandon "Starr" Brown (1509) knocked over the drum set of Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1561) while Dino PeBenito (Unr) outplayed Michael "Y" Shoup (1477) to each lead with 2-0. In addition, Tim "the Chin" Chen (1412) shared the point with Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1405) (See Game 0318). In the Lower Section, Laura Lee (1286) and Darrell "Wilkes" Booth (1169) defeated Alphonse Ashamalla (1350) and Thomas Paradis (1234) respectively to each lead with 2-0. Other Lower Section winners were: 8 year old phenom Joshua "Moo" Mu, Jared Morse, newcomer Michael Easterwood and Joe Shirlen. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable." Fuerstman, Curcuru Share Top Honors;  James, Ulaky, Suess, Hicks Lower Section of Smokehouse XLI
Charlotte, NC 7-19-03: Twenty-three competitors from at least 3 states journied to the Queen City and participated in Smokehouse XLI. In the Top Section, 2002 NC Hall of Fame inductee, current CCC Co-champion, NM Leland "Boss" Fuerstman (2017) dispatched of Jeremy Davenport (1698), Drew with NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) and finally defeated SC Expert Keith "Kevin" Eubanks (2062) (See Game 0319) to score 2.5-.5 and share =1st-2nd Place with Michael "See You Are; See You Are You" Curcuru (1876). Curcuru took out Michael "the Savage" Savage (1549), Drew with veteran Robert C. Moore (1700) (by the skin of his teeth, I might add) and defeated Patrick "Flunker" McCartney (1931) in the final round. Each pocketed $75. In the Lower Section, [USCF Non-Member] Adam "Jesse" James (1594), Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1561), John "Dr" Suess (1539) and Tony "the Tiger" Hicks (1209) each scored 2.5-.5 and took home $37.50To view complete crosstable (Click Here) (Fuerstman directed) Next Smokehouse August 16.
