CCC NEWS & VIEWS 7-3-03
 By NM Leland Fuerstman
Newton, Fuerstman Share Top Honors; Baldwin "B"; Ulaky, Gatlin "C"; Jivan Lower Section of Record Breaking Wendy's XLVI
Charlotte, NC 7-2-03: A grand total of 78! (smashing the old record of 66) of the craftiest calculators in the Carolinas converged upon this sacred temple of higher thinkers more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Wendy's XLVI. In the Top Section, the CCC's #1 player, current NC State Champion NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2316) displayed his tactical skills versus SC Expert Keith "Kevin" Eubanks (2060) to score 4-1 and share 1st-2nd Place with NC Hall of Famer NM Leland "El-Duce" Fuerstman (2017) who defeated James "Big" MacDougall (1797). In addition, Jonathan "the Enforcer" Munnell (1693) upset NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) (See Game 0309). In the "B" Section, though he missed 2 rounds, "George C" Scott Baldwin's (1768) score of 3-0 was still good enough for 1st Place. Meanwhile, Frank "Moo" Mu (1718) split the point with Danesh "DD" Dadgar (1624) as did Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi (1709) with Michael "the Savage" Savage (1561). In the "C" Section, Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1493) was shelled by Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1358) but incredibly still shared 1st-2nd Place with 2.5-2.5. In addition, Kermon Joel Lane (1490) stomped Michael "You Know You Make Me Wanna" Shoup (1477), Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1477) played "taps" for Tracy Davenport (Unr) and Brandon "Starr" Brown (1526) beat down Joshua "Moo" Mu (1516). In the Lower Section, falling one half point short of winning the $100 Bonus, Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1379) yielded a Draw to David "Dipper" Conard (1597) to take clear 1st Place with 4.5-.5. Other Lower Section winners were: Kaled Abdelkefi, Darrell "Wilkes" Booth, Tim "the Chin" Chen, Thomas Paradis, Robert Broadbent, Don Norwood, Jared Morse and Cabot Lineberger. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable." All welcome new CCC members Cabot Lineberger and Thomas Paradis. Visit the CCC Message Board and speak to us!!
