CCC NEWS &VIEWS 7-20-00
By NM Leland Fuerstman

Top Section Knotted Amid Record Turnout; Sinanovic Leads Middle; Tapia Lower In Wendy's XVI
A new CCC record turnout of 36 of the most notorious chessplayers in the Metrolina area braved the elements as well as the devices of their opponents in order to compete in Rd:4 of Wendy's XVI. In the Top Section, NM Leland Fuerstman (2013) did everything humanly possible to attempt to win against Jon "Infinity's End & Cigars Etc" Pietras (1752) but was only able to Draw (See Game 0128) while NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) drew with Gary "the Nuisance" Newsom (1947) (who could equal the leaders with 2.5 upon the successful completion of his adjournment). Also in the Top Section, Patrick McCartney (1948) defeated David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1866) while NM "WWF" Frankie Newton (2193) has adjourned against Jeff Rayfield (1836).  In the Middle Section, Slobodan Sinanovic (1493) made his point by upsetting CCC Internal Affairs Committee Chairman Paul F. Lucas (1636) while Darrell Spencer (1389) handled "C.E.O." Mike Isner (1437).  In addition, Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1589) drew with David "the Bear" Griffin (1674). In the Cruiserweight Division, Paul "Shuttleman" Calloway (1660) manhandled Helton Clavijo (1278). In the Lower Section, Daniel Tapia (1210) outlasted Jim Ulaky (1167) while Brandon Brown (1244) took care of David Roman (1353) to each lead with 3 points. Other Lower Section winners were: Derek Smith, Nick Bambara, Matthew Green, Frank Mu, Jon Meyer, Tim Ruffin, Lee Richardson and Joe Ulaky. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable." All CCC members welcome new member Derek Smith.
