CCC Adds 2 More Masters to Roster! NM Justin Daniel
&
NM Harold Mouzon have both unofficially acheived
the Title of National Master with updated ratings of 2204.
"The Master title is sought by many but achieved by few." Congratulations,

NEWS &VIEWS 8-29-02 By NM Leland Fuerstman Newton Leads Top; Baker,
Brazell, Ozherelyev Middle; Booth, Essex Lower Section of Wendy's XXXVIII Charlotte,
NC 8-28-02: Forty-two of the Metrolina
area's most courteous chessplayers pulled
themselves away from their cathode tubes just long enough toparticipate
in Rd:2 of Wendy's XXXVIII. In the Top Section,
the CCC's #1 active player,
NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2236) won a pawn down ending versus
NM John "NightTrain" Lane (2091) to lead with 2-0.
Meanwhile, NM Leland "El-Presidente" Fuerstman (2021)
won a pawn up ending versus Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1775), NM Daniel
"Deep" Liu (2000) won a piece up ending versus Patrick "Flanker"
McCartney (1931) and with the Black pieces, David
"Kamikaze"
Jaap
(1835) successfully counter-attacked and anhiliated Michael Curcuru (1827).

Section, playing the defense, the good Reverend

Baker (1603) checkmated Dave "Richman" Richards (1719),Deneil
"BedSty" Brazell (1660) beat down Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1516), Viktor

(1643), Nathan "TechDude" Eerenberg (1535) deported Danesh
"Ayatollah" Dadgar (1619) and Jerome "Cookie Monster" DeBell

devoured "CEO" Mike Isner (1594). In addition, Draws were submitted by
Frank "Moo" Mu (1629) vs. Scott "Scratch" Hunter
(1729) and Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1600) vs. Frank
"Chessman" Johnson (1441). In the Lower Section, Darrell
"Wilkes" Booth (1033) out drank Paul "Johnny" Walker (1232) while

Essex (1084) handled Mike Richards (1272) each with 2-0.

in 4 Sections of Smokehouse XXX. In the Top
Section,
recent arrival from Ecuador, Angel
Mera (2150p) scored a perfect 3-0
and took home $100 after wins over
Patrick McCartney (1886), Jairo Moreira (2150p), and SM Klaus Pohl (2225).
Equal 2nd-6th were SM Klaus Pohl, Jairo Moreira, Keith
Eubanks, Tatiana Duarte and Patrick McCartney each with2-1winning$10.
In
the "B"Section, Deneil
"Sean" Brazell (1665) also
scored 3-0 and pocketed $100
after victories over Bob Moore (1720), Slobodan Sinanovic (1720) and Scott
Hunter (1719). Equal 2nd-4th were Dave Richards,Scott
Hunter and James MacDougall each with 2-1
winning $17. In the "C" Section,
Frank
"Chessman" Johnson (1475) likewise
scored 3-0 winning
$100. Equal 2nd-5th were Laurin Keller,
Richard
Tomlin,Euphemia Mu and Danesh Dadgar each with 2-1
winning $12.50.
In the Lower Section, team Wheeless overpowered the field
as North Carolina's version of "Venus & Serina,"Colette
Wheeless (1304) and Amelia Wheeless (1173) won their first 2
games and Drew in the final round to score 2.5-.5
