Wendy's XLIX Begins
Charlotte, NC 9-17-03:  Thirty-eight amateur meteorologists first battened down the hatches (used masking tape on the windows) and then participated in Rd:1 of Wendy's XLIX.
In the Top Section, the CCC's #1 player, NC State Champion, NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2280) fought to the bitter end against Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1985) finally exchanging Queens and winning with seconds left on each clock (See Game 0342). Meanwhile, Michael "See you are; See you are you" Curcuru (2053) claimed that Dino PeBenito (1953) overstepped the time limit prior to completing his 30th move (though his digital clock was not blinking!?), NM Leland "Jefe" Fuerstman (2004) overlooked a crusher and Drew with Tom "Terrific" Waymouth (1900) (See Game 0343) as did NM Daniel "Schlecter" Liu (2014) with mild mannered Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1835) (See Game 0341). In the "B" Section, Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi (1750) clipped  Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1800), Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1614) prosecuted against Kenneth "Star" Ivens (1710), the good reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1729) read scriptures to Jeremy Davenport (1604), Danesh "DD" Dadgar (1670) held on versus Dave "Richman" Richards (1665) and Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1712) made peace with Michael "the Savage" Savage (1700). In the "C" Section, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1410) unloaded on Marnzell "Pat" Hand (1607) (See Game 0340), Mark Johnson (1549) fired "CEO" Mike Isner (1514), Tim "the Chin" Chen (1413) went the distance with Kevin "Spacey" Huang (1433) and Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1505) slipped by Brandy Johnson (834). In the "Lower Section," wins were submitted by Kaled "the Alphabet" Abdelkefi, Glenn "Taco" Bell, "Henry" Cabot Lineberger, Tony "the Tiger" Hicks, Clyde "the Glyde" Plyler and Michael "Clint" Easterwood. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable."  All welcome new member Hudson Tryon.
