Wendy's XXXIII Begins
Charlotte, NC 2-27-02: Thirty-nine of the Southern Piedmont area's most proficient thinkers bundled up and journied to our sacred temple of pseudo-intellectuals more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:1 of Wendy's XXXIII. In the Top Section, the Bd:1 encounter between the CCC's #1 player, NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2229) and newly crowned Expert Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2027) ended in Draw with 6 seconds left on Newton's clock! Otherwise, Black prevailed as Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1899) lost to CCC Favorite Son, 17 year old phenom, soon to be Master (some day, I'm certain) Justin "Dog" Daniel (2184) (See Game 0209), NM Daniel "Schlecter" Liu (2000) was upset by David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1853) and Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1767) somehow lost to NM Leland "Premier Hombre" Fuerstman (2012) (See Game 0208). In the Middle Section, with the Black pieces, Algie "Van" Clyburn (1527) upset Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1748), Danesh "Ayatollah" Dadgar (1568) upset "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1609), Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1637) handled Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1438), Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1464) upset Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1660), Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1617) ethnically cleansed "CEO" Mike Isner (1515) and David "Richman" Richards (1615) edged out Deneil "Slick" Brazell (1492). In the Lower Section, wins were reported by Kevin Huang, CCC Player Representative Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla, Marat Kocharyan, Jered Williams, Ankit Jivan, Frank Hatcher, Viktor Ozherelyev, Sergio Orichi-Cabana and Bernard Baker. All results may be viewed in the "Current Crosstable." Visit the "new" CCC Message Board www.charlottechess.com/wwwboard and speak to us!! (We now begin at 7:30pm sharp! LF).
