NEWS & VIEWS 11-10-11
"Superhero" Leads Top; Wright "B"; Bourque
Lower Section of Skyland XXVIII
Charlotte,
NC 11-9-11: A slightly stronger
turnout of 13
of the
most congenial calculators in the
Queen City converged upon this temple
of higher learning more
commonly known as the Skyland
Family Restaurant in order to
participate in Rd:4 of Skyland XXVIII. Everyone thoroughly
enjoyed the visit of newcomer Sylvia who
played skittles throughout the evening with a few
lucky opponents! (CCC members
got very comfortable
sitting
in
the
padded
booths and full size
tables and chairs while being
catered to by our own
personal waitress, Cathy!
Most enjoyed a
generously portioned delicious
home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot
coffee and other
beverages, analyzed on our demo
board and the giant
flat screen TV with the sound
turned off; open 24 hours!) In the Top Section, superhero Daryl
"Flash" Gordon
(1840) gained a slight advantage in the middle
game and went to the wire with a stubborn Bill
"Mindweeder" Wright
(1609) before yielding the Draw to lead
with 2.5-.5. Meanwhile, the
CCC's #3
player, the pride of Mint Hill,
ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui"
Fuerstman
(2059) sacrificed
every piece at his disposal before blundering in
the late middlegame versus a particularly
determined Paul
"Survivalist" Lucas
(1834). The ensuing conslusion featured an
illegal move, which was pointed out by a
number of spectators?! Regardless,
under protest, a 2 minute
penalty was promptly added to Lucas'
clock. Subsequently, still in severe time
trouble, (See Game 0992)
the Rook vs. Pawns ending degenerated into a Draw! ("Spectators must
never call attention to an illegal move. ...If
2 more moves transpire, and the players don't
notice it, the move stands...") In the
"C" Section,
Winfred
"Guns" Gatlin
(1561) outplayed "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1420)
to lead with 1 point. In the
Lower Section, James
"Gaffer" Bourque
(1376) sacked a piece against Fabian Abril
(1363) and won in the end to lead with 3 points.
In order to observe
all
results see "Current Crosstable"- The
facility was great
and
everybody was happy! We hope that more
players will join us next
Wednesday to dine, socialize and play
chess!
Everyone is welcome... Long live the CCC!

Fuerstman,
Sinanovic Share Top Honors in Reserve Angel
III
Mint Hill, NC 11-6-11: Four
honored members of the CCC Royal Guard converved
upon the palatial estate of NM LF in order to
participate in Reserve
Angel III. The $10 entry fee
guaranteed 3 rounds of G29 and the beverage of
your choice. In Rd:1, the CCC's #3
player, the pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of
Fame, NM
Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman
(2030q) emerged into a
completely even R&P ending versus Bill
"Mindweeder" Wright (1703q) who overstepped the
time limit. Meanwhile, superhero Daryl
"Flash" Gordon
(1751q) vanquished Slobodan "the Mad
Serb" Sinanovic (1831q). In Rd:2, NM LF
endured a severe beating at the hands of the 75 year old "Mad Serb"
while the "Mindweeder"
sarcled the synaptic regions of a superhero's
brain. In the final round, with seconds
remaining on his own clock, Sinanovic
beat Wright on time while "ennui boy"
prevailed over Gordon. When the smoke cleared, Fuerstman
and Sinanovic
finished =1st-2nd
Place with 2-1 and
pocketed $15 each. In order to
observe all results, see "Crosstable."
The competition was fierce and a good time was
had by all. Fuerstman
directed. |
