Policy
Unless approved by
the Director, after 7:45pm, the use of a cell
phone in the playing area is strictly
prohibited. First offense subtracts 10 minutes

| The Charlotte
Chess Club, an Independent Affiliate of the USCF meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!) at the  Skyland Family Restaurant, 4544 South Blvd. Charlotte, NC (Just past Woodlawn Rd towards town on L) Primarily an adult club, the CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45pm. The time control is G90 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top, "B", "C", Lower. Top Section $$100! Other section winners get Free Entry into next event. (Winners must have 4 points with no byes). The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) The venue is "open 24 hours" and guarantees a private area with plenty of tables, good lighting, "Wi-Fi," great food, close parking, friendly management and our own personal waitress, Cindy! (The Management requests that you purchase your meal at Skyland) Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and join the CCC or USCF simply show up at the site. The USCF now offers a special "3 month trial membership" for new players for only $15!! Note: Non-members will be preempted by CCC members who arrive before 7:45pm! |
| Explanation
of "Weekly Tournament Competition" The CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45 pm. sharp! The time control is G90 - All players who compete in tournament competition are required to be members of the United States Chess Federation. Regardless of which round(s) one chooses to enter, a player only gets credit for the game(s) he actually plays. There is no penalty for not showing up; it is simply counted as an unplayed game. - If you're running late, call me at 704-965-8931 and I'll pair you! Skyland stays open 24 hours! |

NC 11-14-12: A slightly lighter turnout
of 20 of the most
capable competitors in the county converged upon
this think tank more
commonly known as the Skyland
Family Restaurant in order to
participate in Rd:2
of Skyland XXXIX. (CCC members
got very comfortable
sitting
in
the
padded
booths and full size
tables and chairs while being
catered to by our own
personal waitress, Cindy.
Most enjoyed a
generously portioned delicious
home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot coffee and other
beverages, analyzed
on our demo board and monitored
the giant flat screen TV with the sound
turned off; open 24 hours!) Vying for the $100
First Prize in the Top
Section,  the CCC's #1 player, Expert Shawn
"P Diddy" Pealer (2165) squared
off against Columbia, SC favorite
son Expert Keith "Chuckie"
Eubanks (2107) with the Black
pieces (for
the 5th consecutive time)
and achieved a superior position
causing White to run his
clock and ultimately tip his King
to share the lead
with NM Patrick "Kahn" Sciacca
(2153) who grabbed a Pawn
in the middlegame and went on to
defeat Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1765) each with
2-0.
Meanwhile, Expert Patrick

McCartney (2048) squeezed out a win with Queen
vs. Rook & Bishop
against the pride of Mint
Hill, ex-member

=1st-2nd in MHVIII Mint Hill, NC 11-3-12: Four honored members of the CCC Royal Guard gathered at the palatial estate of NM LF in order to participate in Mint Hill VIII and enjoy a delicious bowl of "hot chili!" The time control for this "dual" event was G65 with no time delay. In Rd:1, the Pride of Mint Hill, Ex- member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland  "Ennui" Fuerstman (2009)
reluctantly accepted the exchange only to suffer
an intense attack until a surprise conclusion
appeared (See Game
1112) against Paul "Survivalist"
Lucas (1794) while "Wild" Bill Connell
(1915) prevailed in a double Knights ending
versus superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1854). In
Rd:2, "Ennui
Boy" played a trick opening and gained a
slight advantage only to barely survived a time
scramble against the "Superhero" while "Wild
Bill" vanquished the "Survivalist." When
the smoke cleared, Fuerstman and Connell
finished =1st-2nd Place with 2-0 and each
pocketed $30.
Then the players proceeded to participate in a
friendly poker game whereupon NMLF
prevailed! Finally, a lively set of "bughouse"
games concluded the evening! (By the way, if your
opponent calls time and you notice that
one of their flags is down too, is it a
Draw? That happened a few times...!?)
In order

An enjoyable afternoon was had by all. Fuerstman

Cremisi (1896)  in Rd:2 and Matthew "the
Machine" Green (1977) in the final round to score
3-0 and pocket
$100 cash!
Equal 2nd-5th with 2-1
were NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman
(2022), Green, superhero Clarke
"Kent" Brosi (1891) and Mark Gragg
(1843) each winning $12.50.
In the Lower Section, Fabian
 "Flaco" Abril
(1468) took down David Mitchell (754) in Rd:1, David
"Copperfield" Blackwelder (1556) in Rd:2
and Top Seed Marnzell "Pat" Hand
(1600) in the final round to score 3-0 and pocket $90 cash! Equal
2nd-3rd were Blackwelder and Eric
"Truth" Hartung (1080) each
winning $20.
