The Charlotte Chess Club, an Affiliate of the USCF conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:30pm. The time control is 30/1, G30 - Top Section G90. Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) NCCA ($5) membership is required. Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC sponsors a monthly 3 rd. Swiss at Bertucci's and other occasional tournaments. The Charlotte Chess Club has established itself as the premier Chess Club of the Southeast. With a current count of 70 members, we meet each Wednesday evening at 6:30 P.M. (or as early as 5:30 for some) at Wendy's Restaurant, 446 S. Independence Blvd., Charlotte, NC, USA (Directions) The
venue guarantees plenty of tables, good lighting, great food, close parking, limited smoking and friendly management?! Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated events.

  Chumachenko Leads Top; Baldwin "B"; Giannatos "C"; Miranda, Palmer Lower Section of Wendy's LXXXIII
- Round Now Begins at 7:30 pm sharp!! -
windyCharlotte, NC 12-27-06:  A typical winter turnout of 22 Christmas party revellers donned their new sweaters and gathered at this fellowship meeting hall more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:2 of Wendy's LXXXIII. Prior to the round, the 2006 Players of the Year were announced. In order to qualify, players must have participated in at least 6 CCC events and played at least 24 games.  Player of the Year was determined by most CCC Titles earned in 2006. Greatest annual rating increase determined the winners of other sections.

2006 Class "A" Player of the Year - Thomas Paradis
2006 Class "B" Player of the Year - Kevin Huang
2006 Class "C" Player of the Year - Samuel Xin

Each Winner receives a framed Official Certificate and Free Entries into one Wendy's and one Bertucci's event. In addition, their CCC memberships will be extended for one year! - Congratulations to all of our 2006 champions!!

In the Top Section, the CCC's #1 player and North Carolina's highest rated player, FM Andrey "the Giant" Chumachenko (2470) found himself in a  complicated position against upstart Matthew "Juggernaut" Green (1915) but ultimately prevailed  (See Game 0580) to lead with 2-0. Meanwhile, the CCC's #2 player, the pride of Crouse, NC, 2006 CCC Player of the Year NM Frankie "Neutrino" Newton (2287) bounced back from his first defeat in 33 rated games taking down Laura "Karate Kid" Lee (1874), 2006 Top Expert Player of the Year Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (2111) went hunting and bagged Bobby "Duck" Waddell (1806), not without controversy (See msg217) NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2016) salvaged an exchange down ending drawing  Michael "Bolton" Kliber (1900) and Expert Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (2016) yielded a Draw to 2006 CCC Class "B" Player of the Year Kevin "Spacey" Huang (1841). In the "B" Section, Scott "Eagle" Baldwin (1791) made peace with Jonathan "Henry" Hudson (1762) to lead with 1.5-.5. In addition, Peter "the Greek" Giannatos (1412) upset 2006 CCC Class "C" Player of the Year Samuel "Xman" Xin (1754). In the Lower Section, Fran "Arnie Palmer and Cesar "Read me my Rights" Miranda each lead with 2-0. windyCharlotte NC 12-16-06: A grand total of 8 of the finest chessplayers in the Metrolina area participated in the CCC's final Bertucci's event of the year. (Next year, only 6 Bertucci's events are scheduled). In the Top Section, Gary "NightCrawler" Newsom (1952) dispatched  of Fran "Arnie" Palmer (1162), Dave "Greedy" Eadie (1578) and finally Expert Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (2016) to capture clear 1st Place with 3-0 and pocket $80. Equal 2nd-3rd with 2-1 were Expert Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (2111) and McCartney each with 2-1 and winning $20. In order to observe all results see (Crosstable).
