NEWS & VIEWS 12-30-10
Fuerstman Leads
Top; Gatlin "C"; Frazier Lower Section of Skyland
XIX
(Play 3 rounds; Get
a Free Turkey Dinner!)
Charlotte, NC 12-29-10:
A stronger turnout of 16
of the most satiated mental jousters in the Carolinas congregated at
this grand silentium more commonly
known
as
the Skyland Family
Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:4
of Skyland XIX. (CCC
members
got very comfortable
sitting in the padded booths
and
full
size tables and chairs while
being
catered to by
our own personal waitress, Aleka! Most
enjoyed a generously
portioned
delicious
home
style meal for
a ridiculously
low price
($6.95!),
drank fresh
hot coffee and
other
beverages, analyzed
on our demo board
and occasionally
monitored
the giant flat screen TV with
the sound
turned off;
open 24 hours!) In the Top Section,
the pride
of Mint
Hill,
ex-member of the NCCA
Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2009) allowed the early
Black Bishop exchange variation of the Sicilian
Dragon Defense but gained the upper hand on
move 19 (See
Game 0926) enough to go on to win and lead with 3.5-.5. In
addition, the CCC's
#2 player, Team Asheboro's Jonathon "Livingston" McNeill (1995) vanquished Paul
"Survivalist" Lucas (1863) while Spartenburg,
SC icon David "Knox" Williams (1893) split the point with
Team Asheboro's Tom "Terrific" Hales (1777). In the "C" Section, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1555) outplayed Team Asheboro's Ricky
Upchurch (1562) to lead with 3.5-.5.
Meanwhile, Bill "Mindweeder" Wright (1598) drew the White King out like a poltice versus returnee to CCC
competition Vincent "Sonny" Grosso (1416) ultimately issuing
checkmate in
the middle of the board! (See Game 0927). In the Lower Section, "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1358) beat down
Manfred "Mann" Vees (822) to lead with 2-2. In
order to observe all results see "Current Crosstable"-
The
facility was
great and
everybody was happy! We hope that more players
will
join
us next Wednesday to
dine, socialize and play chess! Everyone is
welcome... Long live
the CCC! - Happy
New Year!!
