website. On this page, which is
continuously updated, we will report a
weekly synopsis of the previous meeting
to include current standings, annotated
games, Sinanovic's Puzzle and other
interesting anecdotes for your reading,
viewing, and listening pleasure. We

Chess Club is open to players
of every race, color, creed, national origin,
age, gender, religion, political affiliation
or galaxy! Regardless of skill level or
experience, each member is treated equally

| The Charlotte Chess Club,
an Independent Affiliate of the USCF meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!) at the  Skyland Family Restaurant, 4544 South Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28209 (Just past Woodlawn Rd towards town on L) Primarily an "adult" club, the CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45pm sharp! The time control is G90 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top, "B", "C", Lower. (Current Crosstable) All sections win Free Entry into next event. (Winners must have 4 points with no byes). The Annual club membership fee is $25. Current members receive $5 discount. (Note: Non-members who pay a $25 EF to participate in CCC Saturday events receive $5 credit toward membership for each event entered!) The venue is "open 24 hours" and guarantees a private area with plenty of tables, good lighting, "Wi-Fi," great food, TV with the sound turned off, close parking, friendly management and our own personal waitress, Cindy! (The Management requests that you purchase your meal at Skyland) Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. If you are not playing in the tournament, your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and join the CCC or USCF simply show up at the site! Note: Non-members will be preempted by Members who arrive before 7:45pm! |
| Explanation
of "Weekly Tournament Competition" The CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45 pm. sharp! The time control is G90 - All players who compete in tournament competition are required to be members of the United States Chess Federation. Regardless of which round(s) one chooses to enter, a player only gets credit for the game(s) he actually plays. There is no penalty for not showing up; it is simply counted as an unplayed game. - If you're running late, call me at 704-965-8931 and I'll pair you! Skyland stays open 24 hours! |

News & Views 3-20-14Skyland 53 Begins; Rangarajan (2467) Returns!! (Highest Rated Player in North Carolina!) Charlotte, NC 3-19-14: A good turnout of 26 of the most farctated chess players in the county converged upon this mental jousting arena more commonly know as the Skyland Family Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:1 of Skyland 53. (CCC members got very comfortable sitting in full size tables and chairs while being catered to by our own personal waitress, Cindy. Most enjoyed a generously portioned home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!) drank hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board and monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound turned off; Skyland stays open 24 hours!) In the Top Section, all were honored by the re-emergence of Senior Master Karthik Rangarajan (2467) who, after a 9 year layoff, has returned to  share his
wisdom and participate in CCC
competition. In Rd:1,
the past NC Champion and highest rated
player in the state!, played an Indian
type defense versus the pride of Mint Hill,
ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame,
NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman
(2055) and with some nifty middle
game moves prevented White from castling
Queenside. Watch how Karthik
handles it! (See
Game 1281). Meanwhile, NM Pat "Kahn"
Sciacca (2155) tried to sac a Pawn (See Game 1282)
and went ahead to defeat superhero Daryl "Flash"
Gordon (1876) while  Team Columbia
Expert Keith "Chucky" Eubanks
(1997) outplayed Expert Patrick
"Flanker" McCartney (2083) each leading with 1-0. Meanwhile,
NM Shawn "P Diddy" Pealer
(2178) was unable to clobber Michael
"Bolton" Kliber (2054) and
ultimately settled for the Draw.
In the "B" Section, provisional
player Team Columbia's Jermaine
Green (1751p) upset returnee
to CCC competition M. Dean Hart
(1837) to share the lead with Clarence
"Travis" Walton (1686) who beat
down Paul 'Survivalist" Lucas (1745) and Dawuud
Richards (1637) who outlasted Ervon
"Wooden" Nichols (1646) who overstepped
the time limit, each leading with 1-0. In
addition,  Spencer
"Jazzman" Singleton (1605)
emerged into an equal colored Bishop
ending versus Mikey "Fox" Trott
(1373) ultimately agreed to Draw.
In the "C" Section, "Little" Joe
Little (1538) did the Ponderosa
proud by defeating "Smokin" Corey Frazier
(1511) to lead with 1-0.
In the Lower Section, Debs
Pedigo (1179) outplayed Sam Kumar
(1355) while new CCC member Joe
Rafferty (Unr) won his first
tournament game against Eric "Truth"
Hartung (1362) each leading with 1-0. In
order to observe
all results see "Current
Crosstable." McCartney
assisted. The facility was great
and everybody was happy! We
hope more players will join us to
dine, socialize and play
one rated game of chess at 7:45pm sharp!
