The
Charlotte
Chess Club,
an Independent Affiliate
of the USCF
meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm
(or as early as 5:30 for
some!)
at the
Skyland Family Restaurant,
4544 South Blvd. Charlotte, NC
(Just past Woodlawn
Rd towards town on L)
Charlotte, N.C. The club conducts a
perpetual
5 round tournament
with
one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45pm.
The
time
control
is
G90
-
Entry fee is $4.
($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top, "B", "C", Lower. Section winners
get Free Entry
into next event.
The Annual club
membership
fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) The venue is "open 24 hours" and guarantees
a private area with plenty of
tables, good lighting, great food, close
parking, friendly management and our own personal waitress, Cathy! (The
Management requests that you purchase your meal at Skyland) Join us
to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated
games. Your first
visit is FREE!
Non-members, who have visited
more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2.
The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss
and other special
tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming
Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and
join
the CCC or USCF simply
show up at the site. |
Explanation
of
"Weekly
Tournament
Competition"
The CCC
conducts a
perpetual 5 round tournament
with
one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45
pm. sharp!
The time control is G90
- All players who compete in
tournament competition are required to be members of the United States Chess Federation.
Regardless
of
which
round(s)
one
chooses
to
enter,
a player
only gets credit for the game(s) he actually plays. There is no penalty for not showing
up; it is simply counted as an unplayed game. - If you're running late,
call me at 704-293-4397 and I'll pair you! Skyland stays open 24 hours!

and welcome to the Charlotte Chess Club website. On this page, which is
continuously updated, we will report a weekly synopsis of the previous
meeting to include current standings, annotated games, and other
interesting anecdotes for your reading, viewing, and listening

Skyland
XXIII Begins
Charlotte, NC 4-27-11:
An excellent turnout of 17
of the most contented calculators in the county converged upon this
think tank more commonly known as the Skyland Family
Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:1
of Skyland XXIII. (CCC
members
got
very
comfortable
sitting
in
the
padded
booths
and
full
size tables and chairs while being
catered
to
by
our
own
personal
waitress,
Cathy! Most
enjoyed
a
generously
portioned
delicious
home
style meal for
a
ridiculously
low
price
($6.95!),
drank
fresh
hot
coffee
and
other
beverages,
analyzed
on
our
demo
board
and
occasionally
monitored
the giant flat screen TV with
the
sound
turned
off;
open 24 hours!) In the Top Section,
the
CCC's
#1 player, Expert Shawn
"Arlo" Pealer (2094) gained a
strong positional advantage and finally prevailed over Nate "E's"
Eerenberg (1718), the CCC's #2
player, the pride of Mint Hill, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2050) grabbed a couple of
pawns in the opening (See Game 0953) and held on to
defeat Bill "Mindweeder" Wright (1703), "Wild" Bill Connell (1915) had to work to
beat Marnzell "Pat" Hand (1605) and Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1841) welcomed new member
John Knarr (Unr) to CCC
competition each leading with 1-0. In
addition, Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1855) went to the wire and
split the point with superhero Daryl
"Flash" Gordon (1798). In the Lower Section, Melenik Musa (975) upset "Smokin"
Corey Frazier (1254) while Kenneth
Philson (973) outplayed Manfred "Mann" Vees (789) each with 1-0. All welcome new member James Sheedy. In
order to observe all results see "Current Crosstable"-
The
facility
was
great
and
everybody
was
happy!
We
hope
that
more
players
will
join
us next Wednesday to
dine, socialize and play chess! Everyone is
welcome... Long live
