CCC Cell Phone
Policy
Unless approved by
the Director, after 7:45pm, the use of a cell
phone in the playing area is strictly
prohibited. First offense subtracts 10 minutes
from violators clock; second offense may result
in forfeiture of game.

| The Charlotte
Chess Club, an Independent Affiliate of the USCF meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!) at the  Skyland Family Restaurant, 4544 South Blvd. Charlotte, NC (Just past Woodlawn Rd towards town on L) Primarily an adult club, the CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45pm. The time control is G90 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top, "B", "C", Lower. Section winners get Free Entry into next event. The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) The venue is "open 24 hours" and guarantees a private area with plenty of tables, good lighting, great food, close parking, friendly management and our own personal waitress, Cindy! (The Management requests that you purchase your meal at Skyland) Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and join the CCC or USCF simply show up at the site. The USCF now offers a special "3 month trial membership" for new players for only $15!! Note: Non-members will be preempted by CCC members who arrive before 7:45pm! |
| Explanation
of "Weekly Tournament Competition" The CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45 pm. sharp! The time control is G90 - All players who compete in tournament competition are required to be members of the United States Chess Federation. Regardless of which round(s) one chooses to enter, a player only gets credit for the game(s) he actually plays. There is no penalty for not showing up; it is simply counted as an unplayed game. - If you're running late, call me at 704-965-8931 and I'll pair you! Skyland stays open 24 hours! |

NEWS & VIEWS 5-17-12Skyland XXXIV Begins; Upsets
Abound
Charlotte,
NC 5-16-12: Possibly the strongest
turnout we have ever had at Skyland of 25! of
the most creative adult calculators in the
county, including 3 new members, converged upon
this grand ballroom more
commonly known as the Skyland
Family Restaurant in order to
participate in Rd:1 of Skyland XXXIV. (CCC members
got very comfortable
sitting
in
the
padded
booths and full size
tables and chairs while being
catered to by our own
personal waitress, Cindy.
Most enjoyed a
generously portioned delicious
home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot
coffee and other
beverages, analyzed
on our demo board and monitored
the giant flat screen TV with the sound
turned off; open 24 hours!) In the Top Section, the
CCC's #4
player,
the pride of Mint
Hill,
ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman
(2044) played the
Pirc-Robatch Defense
against  superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon
(1907) who loosened his King after an early "f3"
and then grabbed a couple of Pawns only to
ultimately suffer a horrific attack (See Game 1057)
and tip his King. Meanwhile, the CCC's #1 player, Expert Shawn
"P Diddy" Pealer (2134) snagged an early Pawn but
quickly lost the exchange and was finally upset
by unofficial Expert
Matthew
"the Machine" Green
(1997). In addition, Michael "Jordan" Kliber
(1950) defended to the hilt with only 90 seconds remaining on his clock
and upset Expert
Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (2062) while a tardy
"Wild" Bill
Connell (1905) quickly dispatched of Dr.
Ron "Dutch"  Breukelaar's (1788) Pirc-Robatch Defense in 18 moves, each with 1-0. In the "B" Section,
Paul "Survivalist"
Lucas
(1760) went to the wire with a stubborn Marnzell
"Pat" Hand (1614) who finally overstepped the
time limit to lead with 1-0. In the "C/D/E" Section,
Winfred
"Guns" Gatlin
(1551) exchanged a Rook and Knight for a Queen
and Pawn and went ahead to upset Bill
"Mindweeder" Wright (1747) to share the lead
with "Smokin" Corey
Frazier (1462) who defeated Rich
"Alert" Trela (1289), Marat Kocharyan (1068) who got
by new CCC
member Ray Drury (Unr),
Dr. Ron
"Feet" Futerman
(1172) who welcomed new CCC member
Bob Drury (Unr) and
Eric Hartung
(960) who emerged victorious over Manfred "Mann"
Vees (700) each with 1-0. All
welcome new CCC

facility was great
and
everybody was happy! We hope that more
