NEWS & VIEWS 10-2-03
By NM Leland Fuerstman
Three Lead Top; Baker "B";
Gatlin "C"; Abdelkefi Lower Section of Wendy's XLIX
Charlotte,
NC 10-1-03: A reasonably strong turnout
of
40 of the greater Charlotte area's
most fierce competitors made their way to this factory of creative
thinkers more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:3
of
Wendy's XLIX. In the Top Section, because
his royal motorcade was detained by a nail in the tire of his bullet proof
papal limousine, the CCC's #1 player, current NC State Champion, NM Frankie
"Blitz" Newton (2280) requested, on behalf of his "Second," and
was granted a half point Bye to maintain a share of the lead with 2-1.
Meanwhile, 56 year old golf champion, NM Leland "Jefe" Fuerstman
(2004) won a probably drawn ending against 22 year old Michael "See You
Are; See You Are You" Curcuru (2053) (See Game
0346) while NM
Daniel
"Deep" Liu (2014) snuffed out Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1800) to each
maintain a piece of the lead at 2-1.
In addition, Patrick
"Flanker" McCartney (2002) used kryptonite on mild mannered Clarke
"Kent" Brosi (1835) while Michael Kliber (1900) clobbered Dino PeBenito
(1956). In the "B" Section, the good Reverend Bernard "King"
Baker
(1729) savagely beat down Michael "the Savage" Savage (1689) to lead with
2.5-.5.
Meanwhile, Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1712) retaliated
against Jonathan "the Enforcer" Munnell (1754), Kert Edward (1995)
scissored! Marnzell Hand (1600), Ken "Poison" Ivens (1710)
drew with Jeremy Davenport (1604) and Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi
(1750) split the point with Danesh "Fatherfish" Dadgar (1670).
In the
"C" Section, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1410),
the lowest rated player in the section, used both barrells on David "Dipper"
Conard (1537) to lead with 3-0(See
Game 0345). In addition, James "Sticks" Ulaky
(1500) played a drum roll on Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1527), Clyde
"the
Glyde" Plyler (1333) fyred "CEO" Mike Isner (1514) and Ankit
"Butch" Jivan (1505) made peace with
Tim "the Chin" Chen
(1413).
In the Lower
Section, Kaled
"the Alphabet" Abdelkefi (1311) outplayed Michael Easterwood (1174)
to lead with 3-0. Other Lower
Section
winners were: Todd Essex, Tom Chen, William Dewbre,
CCC Player Representative Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla,
Ilgen
Birsan and Austin "Powers" Scott. All results may be
viewed in "Current Crosstable." All welcome
new members Jason Ballinger and
