CCC
NEWS & VIEWS 10-30-03
By NM Leland Fuerstman
Four Lead Top; Ivens "B"; Three 2-0's
in the "C"; Three 2-0's in the Lower Section
of Wendy's #50!
Charlotte,
NC 10-29-03: A substantial turnout of 38
of the Metrolina area's most productive thinkers
journied to this factory of creative calculators more commonly known as
Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:2 of Wendy's "L".
In the Top
Section, the CCC's #1 player, current NC State
Champion, NM
Frankie
"Blitz" Newton (2270) withstood the vicious counter assault of NM
Leland "El-Jefe" Fuerstman (2016) (See Game
0355) to catch the leaders at
1.5-.5.
Meanwhile, Michael "See You Are; See You Are You" Curcuru
(2037) (more commonly known as the "Grim Reaper") entered the "twilight
zone" (a
point in the game where time "stops" but the game continues with each player
waiting for the other to blunder in an attempt to win a drawn position!??...
Down with "time-delay" clocks?? They, along with unscrupulous Tournament
Directors continue to bring considerable harm to chess...) with Patrick
"Flanker" McCartney (1980) and won a drawn position to equal the leaders
at 1.5-.5. Meanwhile, NM John
"Night-train" Lane (2091) established
a vastly superior position only to let the CCC's Favorite Son, current
NC Scholastic Champion, 17 year old phenom, Daniel "Sour-Grapes"
Tapia
(2137) escape with a Draw each now with 1.5-.5.
In addition, Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1789) with his sharpened
sword poised for the coup de grace, issued a stay of execution
to the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1727). (Hey,
we each have our reason...). In the "B" Section, Ken
"the Terrible" Ivens (1666) brought
terror to Jeremy "Irons" Davenport (1626) to lead with 2-0.
Meanwhile, "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1697) administered a savage
beating to Michael "the Savage" Savage (1694) and Chris "Dirty Harry"
Callahan
(1655) made his day against Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1616)
In the "C" Section, Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1524) handled
Algie "Van" Clyburn (1500), Michael "Y" Shoup (1519) beat
down Tim "the Twin" Chen (1514) and Clyde "the Glyde"
Plyler
(1413) (See Game 0354) dunked
on Kevin "the Twin" Huang (1466) each now with 2-0.
In addition, Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1470) did a drum roll on
Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1528). In the Lower Section,
Tom
"the Twin" Chen (1358), Sean "the Villain" Villone
(1262) and Laura Lee (1347) each have
2-0.
Other Lower Section winners were: CCC Player Representative
Alphonse
"Amazing Al" Ashamalla,
Austin "Powers" Scott and
Joe
"SticksJr" Ulaky. All results may be viewed in "Current
Crosstable." Visit the CCC Message
