CCC NEWS & VIEWS 11-13-03
 By NM Leland Fuerstman
Newton, Curcuru Lead Top; Ivens "B"; Jivan "C"; Chen Lower Section of Wendy's #50!
Charlotte, NC 11-12-03: A rather moderate turnout of only 36 of the Metrolina area's most active competitors abandoned their more important responsibilities and instead participated in Rd:4 of Wendy's L. In the Top Section, just back from finishing clear 3rd Place in the NC Championship, Michael "See You Are; See You Are You" Curcuru (2043) placed his Bishops in a configuration whereby he could move neither, only to be rewarded by NM John "Schlecter" Lane (2072) with a hasty agreement of Draw?! Meanwhile, the CCC's #1 player, NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2266) used kryptonite on Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1833), Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1765) tossed in a piece and a couple of pawns and promptly checkmated NM Leland "El-Greedy" Fuerstman (2012), the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1836) outlasted Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1717) and Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1986) salvaged the Draw versus Gary "the Nuisance" Newsom (1997). Gary wants to personally invite everyone to participate in Pepperoni's I on Monday, 11-24 for  3 rounds of  fast chess, pizza & beer!}  In the "B" Section, a tardy Ken "the Terrible" Ivens (1654) squeeked by Austin "Powers" Scott (1650) to lead with 3.5-.5. Meanwhile, Chris "Dirty Harry" Callahan (1635) administered a savage beating to Michael "the Savage" Savage (1675), "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1697) made peace with Jeremy "Irons" Davenport (1601) and Viktor "the Mad Russian" Ozherelyev (1653) was issued a Draw against Danesh "DD" Dadgar (1706) from a pure R&p vs R&p ending whereby he claimed that his opponent had resigned!? (A witness did not agree). In the "C" Section, Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1552) stopped the winning streak of Laura Lee (1329), whom, though only a "D" player, requested to play up. Jivan remains the only perfect 4-0 in the tournament vying for the $100 bonus! Meanwhile, Tim "the Twin" Chen (1528) got by Algie "Van" Clyburn (1500), Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1552) converted an OCB ending versus Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1541) and Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1524) welcomed new member Doug "Gentleman Jim" Corbett (Unr). In the Lower Section, Tom "the Twin" Chen (1349) upstaged CCC Player Representative Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla (1317) to lead with 3-0. Other Lower Section winners were: Shawn "Penn" Claitt, Glenn "Taco" Bell, Bob "Prince" Albert and "King" Hassan Hashemloo. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable."  All welcome renewed and new members Expert Gary Newsom, Doug Corbett and Marty Katz. Visit the CCC Message Board and speak to us!! Pepperoni's I, Monday, 7:00pm 3-SS, G29!
Curcuru Takes Top; R. Wheeless Lower Section of Smokehouse XLV
Charlotte, NC 11-15-03: A moderate turnout of 19 of the Southern Carolina's most creative  competitors participated in Smokehouse XLV. In the Top Section,Michael "See You Are; See You Are You" Curcuru (2043) continued his journey to "mastery" as he dispatched of Robert C. Moore (1700), Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1986) and SC Expert Keith "Chuck" Eubanks (2090) scoring 3-0 and pocketing $100. Clear 2nd Place was taken by Ken "the (not so) Terrible" Ivens (1654) with 2.5-.5 winning $50. In the Lower Section, (where CCC member Shawn "Penn" Claitt(1310) experienced a rather rude introduction to "Team Wheeless"), Randy "Wheels" Wheeless (1519) scored a perfect 3-0with victories over Shawn "Penn" Claitt (1310), Don "Scott" Norwood (1015) and Kevin Huang (1468) pocketing $70. Clear 2nd Place was daughter Colette "Training Wheels" Wheeless (1312) with 2.5-.5 winning $35 In addition, sister Amelia scored 2-1!
