Curcuru Leads Top; Ivens "B"; Jivan "C"; L. Lee
Lower Section of Wendy's #50!
Charlotte,
NC 11-5-03: Two chessplayers short of 2
score travelled to this arena of mental jousters more
commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:3 of Wendy's
L. In
the Top Section, having just returned from the S.C. State
Championship where he took clear 1st Place!, Expert Michael
"See You Are; See You Are You" Curcuru (2043) met little resistance
against NM Leland "El-Moron" Fuerstman (2012) to take the lead at 2.5-.5.
Meanwhile, the CCC's #1 player, current NC State Champion, NM
Frankie
"Blitz" Newton (2070) split the point with NM John "Night-Train"
Lane
(2072) as did NM Daniel "Schlecter" Liu (2040) with Patrick
"Flanker" McCartney (1986) who incidentally captured clear 2nd
Place at the S.C. Championship! (See Game
0356)In
addition, Clarke Kent" Brosi (1848) emerged from the phone
booth with an "S" on his chest and defeated
the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1836). In the "B" Section,
Ken
"the Terrible" Ivens (1666)
made peace with "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1697) but still leads
with 2.5-.5. Meanwhile,

"DD" Dadgar (1723) was overheard mumbling "make my day, Punk"
as he blew away Chris "Dirty Harry" Callahan (1655),

Oak" Taefi (1730) deported Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1717),

"the Savage" Savage (1694) beat down Marnzell "pat" Hand and
Viktor
"the Mad Russian"

Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1606) ...BANG, you lose! In the
"C" Section,

"Butch" Jivan (1555) did not skyp a stryde agaynst Clyde "the Glyde"
Plyler (1413) to lead with
3-0. Meanwhile,

(1546) spat tobacco juice upon Kert "the Other Side" Edward (1526), Winfred
"Guns" Gatlin (1410) unloaded on Algie "Van" Clyburn (1500) and

Claitt (1311). In the Lower
Section, though she has played
only Class "C" opponents, Laura Lee (1329) defeated Kevin Huang
(1498) to lead with 3-0. Other Lower

NC 10-25-03: A moderate
turnout of 18
of the Southern Piedmont area's most active competitors
participated in Smokehouse XLIV. In the Top
Section,

Favorite Son, current NC Scholastic Champion, 17 year old phenom, Expert
Daniel
"Johnny" Tapia (2137) registered wins over Ken "Beans" Baxter (1912),
Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1980) and SC Expert Keith "Chuck" Eubanks
(2046) to score 3-0
and pocket $100.
Equal 2nd-4th were NM Leland "El-Jefe" Fuerstman (2016),
Patrick
"Flanker" McCartney (1980) and Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic
(1701) each with 2-1
winning $17.
In the Lower Section, equal 1st-2nd Place were Dave
"Richman" Richards (1660) and Viktor "the Mad Russian"
Ozherelyev
(1599) who
each scored 2.5-.5
and won $60.
