By NM Leland Fuerstman Newton, Curcuru Share Top Honors; Ivens Takes "B"; Jivan 5-0 and $100 Bonus in "C"; Privette, Villone Take Lower Section of Wendy's #50! Charlotte,
NC 11-19-03: A grand total of 56
of the Metrolina area's best chessplayers participated in our 50th
Wendy's tournament. In the Top Section, capturing his  unprecedented
31st
Title, the CCC's #1 player, NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton
(2080) converted a minute advantage in an ECB ending against Gary
"the Nuisance" Newsom (1997) to score 4-1
and finish =1st-2nd Place with  Michael
"See You Are; See You Are You" Curcuru (2043) who used just enough
kryptonite on Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1833); Curcuru's 2nd Wendy's
Title.
In addition, Patrick
"Flanker" McCartney (1986) handled Michael the "Savage" Savage (1675)
while Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1786)  deported
Slobodan "The Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1717). In the "B" Section, leader
Ken
"the
Terrible"
Ivens (1666)
did not squander his opportunity to play up by Drawing NM Leland
"El-Jefe"
Fuerstman (2012) and finishing with 4-1.
Meanwhile, the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1836)  contained
Danesh "DD" Dadgar (1723) while Chris "Dirty Harry" Callahan
(1655) made his day against Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1531).
In the "C" Section, Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1524) finished
a perfect 5-0 with a final round victory
over Michael "Y" Shoup (1519) and pocketed the $100
Bonus!  In
addition, Viktor "the Mad Russian" Ozherelyev (1616) polished
off CCC Player Representative Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla (1309) and
Spencer
"Jazzman" Singleton (1528) welcomed newcomer Corey Frazier. In the
Lower
Section,
=1st-2nd
were shared by David "the Divot"
Privette (Unr) and Sean
"the Villain"
Villone (1286) each with 3.5-1.5.
Other Lower
Section winners were: Don "Scott" Norwood,

Take Lower Section of Pepperoni's I (Quick
Ratings Tournament)

NC 11-24-03: A cheerful croud of 18
of the Metrolina area's hungriest pizza eating and beer drinking chessplayers
converged
upon Pepperoni's on Monday evening in order to participate in Pepperoni's
I. This slightly less formal 3 round, G-29
event literally left a good taste in everyone's mouth with each
player receiving 2 large slices of pizza! In the Top Section,
the CCC's #1 player,  NM
Frankie
"Blitz" Newton (2004) secured victories over "George C" Scott Baldwin
(1837) and Jonathan "the Enforcer" Munnell (Unr) before agreeing to a quick
draw with co-champion Chris "the Babe" Mabe (1723) who dispatched
of Ken "the Terrible" Ivens (Unr) and "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1788).
Each scored 2.5-.5 and won $20.  Top
Under 1800 was Jonathan "the Enforcer" Munnell
(Unr) with 2-1 winning $20.
In the Lower Section, Jeremy "Irons" Davenport
(1521) and Laura "Karate Kid" Lee (1121) shared =1st-2nd
Place with 2.5-.5 each winning
$15.  (A

Curcuru Takes Top; R. Wheeless
Lower Section of Smokehouse XLV
Charlotte,
NC 11-15-03: A moderate
turnout of 19
of the Southern Carolina's most creative competitors
participated in Smokehouse XLV. In the Top
Section, Michael
"See You Are; See You Are You" Curcuru (2043) continued his journey
to "mastery" as he dispatched of Robert C. Moore (1700), Patrick "Flanker"
McCartney (1986) and SC Expert Keith "Chuck" Eubanks (2090) scoring 3-0
and pocketing $100.
Clear 2nd Place was taken by Ken "the (not
so) Terrible" Ivens (1654)  with
2.5-.5
winning
$50.
In the Lower Section, (where CCC member Shawn "Penn" Claitt(1310)
experienced a rather rude introduction to "Team Wheeless"), Randy
"Wheels" Wheeless (1519) scored a perfect 3-0 with
victories over Shawn "Penn" Claitt (1310), Don "Scott" Norwood (1015) and
Kevin Huang (1468) pocketing $70.
Clear 2nd Place was daughter Colette Wheeless (1312)
with 2.5-.5
winning $35. 
In addition, sister Amelia
scored 2-1!
