Quakers made the pilgrimage to this thanksgiving eve shrine more
commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:1 of Wendy's
LI.  In
the Top Section, the CCC's #1 player, NM Frankie
"Blitz" Newton (2280) was not as kind to Chris "the Babe" Mabe (1988)
as he was this past Monday when they tied for =1st-2nd Place in
Pepperoni's
I,
Michael "Jackson" Kliber (1902) clobbered S.C. Expert Keith
"Chuck" Eubanks (2090) after a wild time scramble, rising star Expert Michael
"See You Are; See You Are You" Curcuru (2043) initiated Dino "Marcos"
PeBenito (1864), MN Daniel "Deep" Liu (2040) locked the phone
booth on Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1833), NM Leland "El-Jefe" Fuerstman
(2012) survived a lively melee versus the good Reverend Bernard "King"
Baker (1836) (See Game 0357)
and Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1986) proceeded to win after
his opponent, Jonathan "the Enforcer" Munnell (1728) overlooked the winning
line!? In the "B" Section, just as all good pilgrims should, Danesh
"DD" Dadgar (1706) made peace with Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi
(1730) as did Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1717) with
Kaled
"the Alphabet" Abdelkefi (1588). In the "C" Section, Michael
"You Know You Make Me Wanna" Shoup (1502) bested Kevin Huang (1468),
Jim
"Sticks" Ulaky (1500) did a drum roll on Tim "the Twin" Chen
(1586), Laura "Karate Kid" Lee (1329) KOed Brandon "Starr"
Brown (1563) (Wow!), Algie "Van" Clyburn (1500) yielded
a draw to Craig "Xan" Hamilton (1436) and
Kert "the
Other Side" Edward (1527) shared the point with
Sean "the
Villian" Villone (1318). In the Lower Section, victories
were posted by Marty "Freddy" Katz (Unr) and Hassan Hashemloo

Take Lower Section of Pepperoni's I (Quick
Ratings Tournament)

NC 11-24-03: A cheerful croud of 18
of the Metrolina area's hungriest pizza eating and beer drinking chessplayers
converged
upon Pepperoni's on Monday evening in order to participate in Pepperoni's
I.
This slightly less formal 3 round, G-29
event
literally left a good taste in everyone's mouth with each player receiving
2 large slices of pizza! In the Top Section, the CCC's #1
player,  NM
Frankie
"Blitz" Newton (2004) secured victories over "George C" Scott Baldwin
(1837) and Jonathan "the Enforcer" Munnell (Unr) before agreeing to a quick
draw with co-champion Chris "the Babe" Mabe (1723) who dispatched
of Ken "the Terrible" Ivens (Unr) and "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1788).
Each scored 2.5-.5 and won $20.  Top
Under 1800 was Jonathan "the Enforcer" Munnell
(Unr) with 2-1 winning $20.
In the Lower Section, Jeremy "Irons" Davenport
(1521) and Laura "Karate Kid" Lee (1121) shared =1st-2nd
Place with 2.5-.5 each winning
$15.  (A

Curcuru Takes Top; R. Wheeless
Lower Section of Smokehouse XLV
Charlotte,
NC 11-15-03: A moderate
turnout of 19
of the Southern Carolina's most creative competitors
participated in Smokehouse XLV. In the Top
Section, Michael
"See You Are; See You Are You" Curcuru (2043) continued his journey
to "mastery" as he dispatched of Robert C. Moore (1700), Patrick "Flanker"
McCartney (1986) and SC Expert Keith "Chuck" Eubanks (2090) scoring 3-0
and pocketing $100.
Clear 2nd Place was taken by Ken "the (not
so) Terrible" Ivens (1654)  with
2.5-.5
winning
$50.
In the Lower Section, (where CCC member Shawn "Penn" Claitt
(1310) experienced a rather rude introduction to "Team Wheeless"),
Randy "Wheels" Wheeless (1519) scored a perfect 3-0 with
victories over Shawn "Penn" Claitt (1310), Don "Scott" Norwood (1015) and
Kevin Huang (1468) pocketing $70.
Clear 2nd Place was daughter Colette Wheeless (1312)
with 2.5-.5
winning $35. 
In addition, sister Amelia
scored 2-1!
