    Greetings from Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, Earth to everyone out there in cyberia, and welcome to the Charlotte Chess Club website. We have finally entered the ultra modern age of instant communication. In this column, which is updated every Thursday, we will strive to report a weekly synopsis of the previous meeting to include current standings, annotated games, and other interesting anecdotes for your reading, viewing, and listening pleasure. Our goal is to eventually provide our members with a "realtime" site which will instantly produce current information about chess with the click of a mouse! Charlotte Players Dominate North Carolina High School Championship!
Hendersonville, NC 3-10-02: Congratulations are in order for the First Place Harding High School Chess Team which was comprised of CCC Favorite Son, 17 year old phenom, soon to be Master Justin "Dog" Daniel (2186), soon to be CCC Favorite Son, 15 year old phenom, Expert Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2028) and Kaustubh R. Pimputkar (1626). Each tied for =1st-3rd with 4.5-.5. Pimputkar's top tie-break total won him the right to compete in the annual Denker Tournament which coincides with the U.S. Open. Good work, gentlemen; you've done the CCC proud! LF

Daniel, Tapia Lead Top; Richards Middle; Williams, Baker Lower Section of Wendy's XXXIII
Charlotte, NC 3-13-02: A new individual round record of 46 of the Metrolina area's most competent calculators abandoned their more important responsibilities and instead participated in Rd:3 of Wendy's XXXIII. In the Top Section, the CCC's #1 player, NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2216) split the point with CCC Favorite Son, 17 year old phenom, Expert Justin "Dog" Daniel (2166) allowing Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2039), who quickly dispatched of NM Leland "Premier Hombre" Fuerstman (2018) to equal Daniel's score of 2.5-.5. In addition, NM Garrick "Outlaw" Wells (2082) outplayed David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1831) while Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1796) made like "Superman" versus Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1787). In the Middle Section, David "Richman" Richards (1665) rampaged Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1617) to lead with 3-0, Michael "You Know You Make Me Wanna" Shoup (1550) handled "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1620), Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1428) upset Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1716) (See Game 0211) , Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1609) used his raygun on "CEO" Mike Isner (1638), Deneil "Slick" Brazell (1552) vanquished Danesh "Shah" Dadgar (1550) and Nathaniel "TechDude" Eerenberg (1320) edged out Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1421). In the Lower Section,Bernard "B-man" Baker (1471) and Jered Williams (1377) each lead with 3-0. Other Lower Section winners were: Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin, Jim "Sticks" Ulaky, Frank Hatcher, Eric "the Red" Rust, I'John Gatewood, Paul "Johnny" Walker, Thomas Jensen, Brandy Chaffee and Clyde "the Glide" Plyler. Pohl Perfect Again!; Baldwin, Brazell 3-0 In Middle; Temlyakov 3-0 In Lower Section of Smokehouse XXV

Charlotte, NC 3-16-02:  A total of 28 of North Carolina's best chessplayers, and at least two from S.C. participated in Smokehouse XXV. In the Top Section, SM Klaus Pohl (2225) from Greenville, SC defeated David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1831), NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2010)  (See Game 0212) and NM Leland "Premier Hombre" Fuerstman (2018) on his way to a second consecutive perfect Smokehouse title and a cash prize of $100. Equal 2nd-4th with 2-1 were 16 year old phenom, newly crowned Expert Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2039), 54 year old "hasbeen" NM Leland "Premier Hombre" Fuerstman (2018) (See Game 0213) and Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1918) each pocketing $17. In the Middle Section, Scott Baldwin's (1731) perfect score included wins over Marnzell Hand (1600), Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1550) and Laurin Keller (1478) while Daneil "Slick" Brazell's (1552) victims included Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1428), Viktor Ozherelyev and Danesh "Shah" Dadgar (1550). Each took home $75. In the Lower Section, newcomer Kirill Temlyakov (Unr) from Irmo, SC (by way of Moskow) dispatched of Dennis Wall, Frank Hatcher and Sergio Orichi-Socana scoring 3-0 and collecting $80.
