    Greetings from Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, Earth to everyone out there in cyberia, and welcome to the Charlotte Chess Club website. We have finally entered the ultra modern age of instant communication. In this column, which is updated every Thursday, we will strive to report a weekly synopsis of the previous meeting to include current standings, annotated games, and other interesting anecdotes for your reading, viewing, and listening pleasure. Our goal is to eventually provide our members with a "realtime" site which will instantly produce current information about chess with the click of a mouse! Charlotte Players Dominate North Carolina High School Championship!
Hendersonville, NC 3-10-02: Congratulations are in order for the First Place Harding High School Chess Team which was comprised of CCC Favorite Son, 17 year old phenom, soon to be Master Justin "Dog" Daniel (2186), soon to be CCC Favorite Son, 15 year old phenom, Expert Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2028) and Kaustubh R. Pimputkar (1626). Each tied for =1st-3rd with 4.5-.5. Pimputkar's top tie-break total won him the right to compete in the annual Denker Tournament which coincides with the U.S. Open. Good work, gentlemen; you've done the CCC proud! LF

Daniel Leads Top; Millsaps, Richards Middle; 5 Still Perfect in Lower Section of Wendy's XXXIII
Charlotte, NC 3-6-02: An overflow crowd of 42 of the Metrolina area's most ambitious chess players converged upon our sacred temple of thinkers more commonly known as Wendy's on Wednesday evening in order to participate in Rd:2 of Wendy's XXXIII. In the Top Section, CCC Favorite Son, 17 year old phenom, soon to be Master Justin "Dog" Daniel (2186) pushed home the winning attack with seconds left on his clock versus CCC President NM Leland "Premier Hombre" Fuerstman (2012) to lead with 2-0.(See Game 0210)  Meanwhile, with the Black pieces, the CCC's #1 player, NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2233) rose to the occasion against NM Garrick "Outlaw" Wells (2089), 15 year old phenom, Expert Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2027) squeaked by NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) and Clarke "Superman" Brosi (1748) upset Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1899). In the Cruiserweight Division, Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1767) split the point with Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1617). In the Middle Section, a determined team of African -Americans made up of David "Richman" Richards (1615) and Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1637) ethnically cleansed Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1617) and "Shah" Danesh Dadgar (1568) respectively to lead with 2-0. In addition, "Iron" MikeEberhardinger (1609) hammered Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1414), Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1428) beat down Deneil "Slick" Brazell (1493), Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1660) used his raygun on  Michael "You Know You Make Me Wanna" Shoup (1470) and "CEO" MikeIsner (1515) discharged Algie Clyburn (1528). In the Lower Section, CCC Player Representative Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla, Bernard "B-man" Baker, Jered Williams, Ankit Jivan and Sergio Orichi-Socana each have 2-0.  Other Lower Section winners were: Clyde "the Glide" Plyler, Nathan "TechDude" Eerenberg, Jim "Sticks" Ulaky, Darrell "Wilkes" Booth and John Meyer. Pohl Returns with a Vengeance; Dadgar Wins Lower Section of Smokehouse XXIV

Charlotte, NC 1-19-02: Sixteen weekend warriors participated in Smokehouse XXIV. In the Top Section, SM Klaus Pohl (2200) from Greenville, SC registered wins over Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1896), Ken J. Baxter (1936) and Expert Gary "Player" Newsom (2013) respectively to score a perfect 3-0 and take home $100. Clear 2nd Place with 2.5-.5 was NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) who pocketed $50. In the Lower Section, Danesh "Shah" Dadgar (1568) was also perfect with wins over Bernard Baker, "CEO" Mike Isner, and Jim "Sticks" Ulaky winning $60.
