LIII; McCartney Censured.
Charlotte,
NC 3-3-04: A massive turnout of
66,
including a near record 44 who
participated
in the final round, converged upon this holy temple of higher thinkers
more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Wendy's
LIII. In
the Top Section, capturing his record 34th
Wendy's Title, the CCC's #1 player, NM Frankie "Blitzin" Newton
(2263) was held to a hard fought Draw against Patrick "Flanker"
McCartney
(2026) to finish 1st Place with 3.5-1.5.
Equal 2nd-3rd Place were McCartney and NM Leland
"El-Jefe" Fuerstman
(2019) who split the point with NM Daniel "Schlechter" Liu
(2036) each with 2.5-2.5.
Meanwhile, Chris "the Babe" Mabe (1976) smote the good
Reverend
Bernard "King"
Baker (1781) as "George C" Scott Baldwin (1812) rendered shaken
Mark "Stur"man (1700). In the "B" Section, Jeremy
"Irons" Davenport (1603) who mysteriously avoided the top
echelon
of 1700's, split the point with returnee from Russia Michael
"the
Savage" Savage (1632) to take clear 1st Place with 3.5-1.5.
In addition, Chris "Dirty "Harry" Callahan (1642) made
his
day against Danesh "DD" Dadgar (1712) who had apparently ingested to
much "toxic
waste," Bobby "the Duck" Waddell (1777) avenged Ken
"the
Terrible" Ivens (1744), Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi (1737)
schooled
Michael Easterwood (1650), Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1647)
quashed
the coup' of Dave "Ameen" Eadie (1647) and Viktor "the Mad
Russian" Ozherelyev
(1632) expatriated Kaled "the Alphabet" Abdelkefi (1525). In the "C"
Section, Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton
(1501) outdrew Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1510) to take clear 1st Place
with 4.5-.5. Meanwhile, Kert
"the Oracle" Edward (1497)'s prediction came true against Kevin
"Spacey" Huang (1453), Laura "Karate Kid" Lee (1460)
roundkicked
Vijay "Singh" Sethuraman (1428), Clyde "the Glyde" Plyler
(1503) dunked on Tom "the Twin" Chen (1490) and Algie
"Crumpler" Clyburn
(1500) made peace with Tim "the Twin" Chen (1595). In
the Lower Section, clear 1st Place was
captured by Shawn
"Penn" Claitt (1269) who
went 5-0 and collected the $100
cash bonus! Other Lower Section winners were: Ervon

competitors from North and South Carolina journied to the Queen City
in order to participate in Smokehouse XLVIII. In
the Top Section, Expert Michael "See You Are;
See
You Are You" Curcuru (2070) dispatched of Ken "the Terrible"
Ivens
(1744) and the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1851) before sharing
the final point with Chris "the Babe" Mabe (1976) who
registered
wins against Mark Sturman (1750) and NM Leland "El-Jefe" Fuerstman
(2019) (who
for the second time in as many tries blundered away an equal game due
to
a minor distraction). Each scored 2.5-.5
and won $75. The Middle Section
honors were shared by Kert "the Oracle" Edward (1543)
who
defeated Algie "Crumpler" Clyburn (1500) and Dave "Ameen" Eadie (1647)
prior to agreeing to Draw with "Mean" Matthew Green (1674) who
got
by Hayes "Let's Go" Bowling (1785) and Matthew "REman" Smith (1700).
Each
scored 2.5-.5
and won $75.
In the Lower Section, Samuel
"Shinn" Xin (536?) took a Bye and then rattled off wins
against
Patrick McGann (1140) and a disgusted Shawn "Penn" Claitt (1269) to
score 3-0
and pocket $50. (Claitt
should be admired for his restraint in not punching a 6 year old!?)
