"Outlaw" Ambushes "El-Presidente," Wins Top; Sinanovic Takes Middle; Gatlin, J. Mu, Callahan Lower Section of Wendy's XXXIV
Charlotte, NC 5-1-02 : Once again, CCC attendance records were smashed in two categories as a grand total of 70 different players participated in Wendy's XXXIV with 47 playing in Rd:5. In the Top Section, leader NM Leland "El-Presidente" Fuerstman (2027) launched a lively attack against  NM Garrick H.G."Outlaw" Wells (2082) but overlooked the winning move ultimately losing. (See Game 0221)   Because Expert Justin Daniel was a no-show (and a no-call), this allowed the "Outlaw" to take clear 1st Place with 3.5-1.5. Meanwhile, NM Daniel "Schlecter" Liu (2009) outflanked Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1918) but somehow the game ended in his 5th consecutive Draw?! while the CCC's #1 player, NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2216) yielded a Draw to Clarke "Superman" Brosi (1809). In the Cruiserweight Division, Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1789) split the point with Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1600). In the M iddle Section, Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1716)  took an under the weather Deneil "Sean" Brazell (1615) to school to finish clear 1st Place with 4-1. Also, in the Middle Section, Frank Mu (1525) bested Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1609), Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1617) short circuited Nathan "TechDude" Eerenberg (1482), Danesh "the Mad Iranian" Dadgar (1550) vanquished Bernard "Bman" Baker (1521), Jerome "Cookie Monster" DeBell (1654) survived against Viktor Ozherelyev (1500), Gregory "the Mad Ukrainian" Bunich (1609) discharged Algie "Van" Clyburn (1590), "CEO" Mike Isner (1638) broke even with Gennady Brazhnikov (Unr) and Michael "You Know You Make Me Wanna" Shoup (1550) Drew with Wallace Kleucker (1590). In the Lower Section, the valiant attempt by the CCC's youngest member, 6 year old phenom JoshuaMu (1044) to score a perfect 5-0 and win a $100 Bonus was thwarted by Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1297) who tied with Mu for 1st-3rd Place with 4-1 .(See Game 0222) Also scoring 4-0 was Chris "Dirty Harry" Callahan (Unr) who decisively defeated CCC Player Representative Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla (1262). Other Lower Section winners were: James "Sticks" Ulaky, Ankit Jivan, ToddEssex , John Meyer, Darrell "Wilkes" Booth, Mike Richards , Kevin Huang and Hassan Hashemloo. All results may be viewed in the "Current Crosstable." Visit the "new" CCC Message Board and speak to us!! All welcome new CCC member John Stewart. {Special thanks to Assistant Tournament Director Joyce Mu who is attempting to help modernize the CCC with  computer pairings.
