Wendy's XXXV Begins
Charlotte, NC 5-8-02 :A rather healthy turnout of 38 of the Metrolina area's most creative thinkers abandoned their less important responsibilities and instead participated in Rd:1 of Wendy's XXXV. In the Top Section, the CCC's #2 player, NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2216) squeeked by returnee to competition Tom "Lycanthrope" Waymouth (1913), NM Garrick "Outlaw" Wells (2085) gunned down Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1923), NM Leland "El-Presidente" Fuerstman (2027) broke out the kryptonite versus Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1809) and Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1696) hung tough and split the point with NM Daniel "Schlecter" Liu (2000). In the Middle Section, Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1550) outlasted David "Richman" Richards (1665), Jerome "Cookie Monster" DeBell (1654) consumed Michael "Y" Shoup (1550), Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1617) turned the tables on Algie "Van" Clyburn (1500), Reverend Bernard "Jim" Baker (1521) said a prayer for Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1609), Deneil "Sean" Brazell (1617) beat down Frank Mu (1526), "CEO" Mike Isner (1638) split the point with Brandon "Starr" Brown (1508), Ankit Jivan (1170) drew with Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1428) and Nathan "TechDude" Eerenberg (1482) has adjourned with Danesh "Shah" Dadgar (1550). In the Lower Section, wins were turned in by Jim "Bobby" Fisher, Kevin Huang, Robert Broadbent and Kevin Blackwell. Honorable mention should be made for 6 year old phenom JoshuaMu who was two pawns down but created a stalement position with the "suicide" Rook! versus Robert "Dirty Harry" CallahanAll results may be viewed in the "Current Crosstable."Visit the "new" CCC Message Board and speak to us!! {Special thanks to Assistant T.D. GM Becerra, Mouzon Lead Sunday Special I
Charlotte, NC 5-12-02: Twenty-two of the CCC's most active members first presented flowers to Mom for "Mothers Day" and then participated in Rd:2 of Sunday Special I. In the Top Section, International Grandmaster Julio Becerra (2605) handily contained Expert Gary "Player" Newsom (2014) to maintain a share of the lead with 2-0. Also remaining perfect is Expert Harold Mouzon (2195) who contained Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1923). In addition, NM Leland "El-Presidente" Fuerstman (2027) outlasted Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) while Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1809) split the point with Robert Moore (1700). In the Middle Section, Frank Mu (1525) scrambled Carl "Codes" McKern (1585), Deneil "Sean" Brazell (1624) short circuited Nathan "TechDude" Eerenberg (1482), Danesh "Shah" Dadgar (1567) staged a public execution of  Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1494) and Randy Wheeless (1474) rolled over Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1417). In the Lower Section, 6 year old phenom Joshua Mu (1090) leads with 2-0 after a nice win over Amelia Wheeless (1138). Other Lower Section winners were: Jim "Sticks" Ulaky. Newsom, McCartney Share Top Honors; Brazhnikov Middle; Nevitt Lower Section of Smokehouse XXVII
Charlotte, NC 5-11-02: A moderate turnout of 26 participated in Smokehouse XXVII. In the Top Section, Expert Gary "Player" Newsom (2014) dispatched of Chris Mabe (1773) and NM Leland "El-Presidente" Fuerstman (2027) before agreeing to a Draw with co-winner Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1923) who had defeated Sam Copeland (1722) and SM Klaus Pohl (2225). Their score of 2.5-.5 earned each $75. In the Middle Section, for the second consecutive Smokehouse, Gennady Brazhnikov (1300)scored a perfect 3-0 winning $100. Equal 2nd-5th were Joe Crump (1433), Hayes Bowling (1663), Laurin Keller (1511) and Kirill Temlyakov (1433) each scoring 2-1 and pocketing $12.
