and welcome to the Charlotte Chess Club website. On this page, which is
continuously updated, we will report a weekly synopsis of the previous
meeting to include current standings, annotated games, and other
interesting anecdotes for your reading, viewing, and listening
pleasure. We welcome your contributions and comments on our

A slightly stronger
turnout of 24 of the most creative
calculators in the Carolinas converged upon this factory where chess
champions are manufactured more commonly known as Wendy's in
order to participate in Rd:3
of Wendy's LXXXIII. In the Top Section,
the CCC's #1 player and North Carolina's highest
rated player, FM Andrey "the
Giant" Chumachenko (2470)
converted the slightest advantage from an ECB ending against
Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2175) to lead with 3-0.
Meanwhile, trailing
by 1/2 point, 2006 Top Expert Player of the Year Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (2111) played a trick opening
and mocked NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2016), 2006 CCC Class "B" Player of the Year Kevin "Spacey" Huang (1841) hung tough and
prevailed over Gary "NightCrawler" Newsom (1984) and NM John "NightTrain Lane (2085) equalized and held the
CCC's #2 player,
the pride of Crouse, NC, 2006
CCC Player of the Year NM Frankie "Neutrino" Newton (2306) to a
Draw as did Jonathan
"Enforcer" Munnell (1947)
versus Expert Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (2016). In the "B" Section, 2006 CCC Class "C" Player of the Year Samuel "Xman" Xin (1754) turned the tables
on "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1702), Peter
"the Greek" Giannatos
(1412) upset Viktor "the Mad Russian" Ozherelyev (1636), Amelia "Wheels" Wheeless (1636) beat down Melvin
"Isaac" Hayes (1511) and Spencer
"Jazzman" Singleton (1666)
split the point with returnee to CCC competition Ken "the Great" Ivens (1759). Wheeless, Xin and Scott Baldwin lead with 1.5. Giannatos leads the "C" Section with 2-0. In the Lower Section, wins were submitted by Dominique "Wilkins" Myers, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin and Dave "Salt" Peter. All
results may be observed on the current "Crosstable".

Newsom Perfect in Bertucci's XVII
Charlotte NC 12-16-06: A grand total of 8 of the finest
chessplayers in the Metrolina area participated in the CCC's final Bertucci's event of the year.
(Next year, only 6
Bertucci's events are scheduled). In the Top Section,
Gary "NightCrawler"
Newsom (1952) dispatched of Fran "Arnie" Palmer (1162), Dave
"Greedy" Eadie (1578) and finally Expert Patrick "Fabio" McCartney
(2016) to capture clear 1st Place
with 3-0
and pocket $80.
Equal 2nd-3rd with 2-1 were
Expert Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (2111) and McCartney each with 2-1 and
winning $20.
