Pealer, McCartney Lead Top; Walton  "B"; Trott "C"; Kumar, Melrose  Lower Section of Skyland 49
Charlotte, NC 10-23-13:  A light turnout of 17 of the most creative calculators in the county converged upon this mental jousting arena more commonly know as the Skyland Family Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:1 of Skyland 49. (CCC members got very comfortable sitting in full size tables and chairs while being catered to by our own personal waitress, Cindy. Most enjoyed a generously portioned home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!) drank hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board and monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound turned off; Skyland stays open 24 hours!) In the Top Section, the CCC's #2 player, newly crowned NM Shawn "P Diddy" Pealer (2209) chose a London System setup versus the Pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2015) and promptly blundered a Pawn away on move 26 (See Game 1232) before the latter player gave it back and overstepped the time limit in a losing position. In addition, Expert Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (2100) outplayed Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1745) to share the lead with 1-0. In the "B" Section, Clarence "Travis" Walton (1704) put a severe beatdown on "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1440) to lead with 1-0. In the "C" Section, Mikey "Fox" Trott (1422) estrapaded "Little" Joe Little (1500) to lead with 1-0. In the Lower Section, Sam Kumar (1267) outplayed Debs Pedigo (1164) while new CCC member Adam Melrose (992) defeated George Cobb (927) each leading with 1-0. In addition, Rich "Alert" Trela (1201) split the point with John Knarr (1006). In order to observe all results see "Current Crosstable." The facility was great and everybody was happy! We hope more players will join us next Wednesday to dine, socialize and play one rated game of chess at 7:45pm sharp! Everyone is welcome. Long live the CCC!

Sciacca, Fuerstman, Cremisi Share Top Honors; Trott Perfect in Lower Section of FM Ron Simpson Memorial Knights Templar VI
Charlotte, NC 10-5-13:  A light turnout of 18 of the most loyal members of the CCC Royal Guard
congregated on the 7th floor of the Dowd YMCA in order to participate in Knights Templar VI. In the Top Section, NM Pat "Kahn" Sciacca (2117) dispatched of Team Columbia's Jimmy Hill (1822) in Rd:1, Sulia "Brick" Mason (1946) in Rd:2 and somehow saved a lost ending in Rd:3 and Drew 13 year old Daniel Cremisi (1984) (See Game 1227) {game now fully annotated!} who had defeated Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1651) in Rd:1 and Mark "Steeler" Biernacki (1941) in Rd:2. In addition, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2011) blundered the win away and barely Drew by the skin of his teeth against Kireet Panuganti (1796) in Rd:1 then reeled off wins against Julian Billings (1651) in Rd:2 and Team Winston-Salem's Lee Zinzow (1631) (See Game 1226) in the final round to finish =1st-3rd with Sciacca and Cremisi with 2.5-.5 and each pocket $50. (sweet revenge over Zinzow who had defeated NMLF in Lexington 30 years ago!! - For Zinzow's game with Singleton (See Game 1228). In the Lower Section, Mike "Fox" Trott (1405) broke into a full gallop with consecutive wins over John Knarr (1002), Rich "Alert" Trela (1230) and Marnzell "Pat" Hand (1600) to finish clear 1st Place with 3-0, take home $80 and gain 113 rating points! Equal 2nd-3rd with 2-1 were Team Winston-Salem's Bruce Rau and Hand each winning $20. In order to observe all results see "Crosstable." At the onset of the event, a few minutes were taken to remember FM Ron Simpson. Finally, all clocks were stopped in the final round after the girls from the meeting room down the hall brought us giant fresh muffins!! A great time was had by all. An exact 75% was returned to the players. Fuerstman directed.
