Gordon Takes Top Title! Wright "B"; Bourque Lower Section
of Skyland XXVIII
Charlotte,
NC 11-16-11: A grand total of 12 of the
most dedicated mental jousting
contenders in the city congregated at
this institution of higher learning
more
commonly known as the Skyland
Family Restaurant in order to
participate in Skyland XXVIII. (CCC members
got very comfortable
sitting
in
the
padded
booths and full size
tables and chairs while being
catered to by our own
personal waitress, Cathy!
Most enjoyed a
generously portioned delicious
home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot
coffee and other
beverages, analyzed on our demo
board and the giant
flat screen TV with the sound
turned off; open 24 hours!) In the Top Section, superhero Daryl
"Flash" Gordon
(1840) snagged a piece in
the middlegame versus a fiesty Dr. Ron "Dutch"
Breukelaar (1694) and prevailed in the ending to
finish clear 1st
Place with 3.5-1.5 and
claim his first
CCC Title of the year! Meanwhile,
the pride of Mint
Hill,
ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman
(2059) paid homage to a true superhero, long
time CCC
member and friend, Staff Sergeant Brian Fraiser
(1612) who just returned from his 3rd tour of active duty in Afghanistan
to hold on for 65 moves!
(See Game 0993).
In addition, Slobodan
"the Mad Serb" Sinanovic
(1874) outplayed Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1560) to
finish =2nd-3rd
with Fuerstman
each with 3-2 while Paul "Survivalist"
Lucas (1834)
defeated Fabian "Flaco" Abril (1363). In the "B" Section,
Bill
"Mindweeder" Wright
(1604), who is driving around aimlessly
somewhere in Indiana, took a half point Bye and
finished clear 1st
Place with 3-2. In
the Lower
Section,
James
"Gaffer" Bourque
(1381) finished
clear 1st Place
with 3-0. In addition, Joe "Spider"

order to observe
all
results see "Current Crosstable"- The
facility was great
and
everybody was happy! We hope that more
players will join us next
Wednesday to dine, socialize and play
chess!
Everyone is welcome... Long live the CCC!

Fuerstman,
Sinanovic Share Top Honors in Reserve Angel
III
Mint Hill, NC 11-6-11: Four
honored members of the CCC Royal Guard converved
upon the palatial estate of NM LF in order to
participate in Reserve
Angel III. The $10 entry fee
guaranteed 3 rounds of G29 and the beverage of
your choice. In Rd:1, the CCC's #3
player, the pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of
Fame, NM
Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman
(2030q) emerged into a
completely even R&P ending versus Bill
"Mindweeder" Wright (1703q) who overstepped the
time limit. Meanwhile, superhero Daryl
"Flash" Gordon
(1751q) vanquished Slobodan "the Mad
Serb" Sinanovic (1831q). In Rd:2, NM LF
endured a severe beating at the hands of the 75 year old "Mad Serb"
while the "Mindweeder"
sarcled the synaptic regions of a superhero's
brain. In the final round, with seconds
remaining on his own clock, Sinanovic
beat Wright on time while "ennui boy"
prevailed over Gordon. When the smoke cleared, Fuerstman
and Sinanovic
finished =1st-2nd
Place with 2-1 and
pocketed $15 each. In order to
observe all results, see "Crosstable."
The competition was fierce and a good time was
had by all. Fuerstman
directed. |
