CCC Cell Phone
Policy
Unless approved by
the Director, after 7:45pm, the use of a cell
phone in the playing area is strictly
prohibited. First offense subtracts 10 minutes
from violators clock; second offense may result
in forfeiture of game.

Adjustment of Pieces.
"A player who is on the
move and first expresses the
intention to adjust (e.g. by saying
j'adoube or I adjust) may adjust one or
more pieces on their squares."
The distracting practice of adjusting pieces on your opponents time is a violation of the rules and may result in a time penalty. |

| The Charlotte
Chess Club, an Independent Affiliate of the USCF meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!) at the  Skyland Family Restaurant, 4544 South Blvd. Charlotte, NC (Just past Woodlawn Rd towards town on L) Primarily an adult club, the CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45pm. The time control is G90 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top, "B", "C", Lower. Top Section $$100! Other section winners get Free Entry into next event. (Winners must have 4 points with no byes). The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) The venue is "open 24 hours" and guarantees a private area with plenty of tables, good lighting, "Wi-Fi," great food, close parking, friendly management and our own personal waitress, Cindy! (The Management requests that you purchase your meal at Skyland) Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and join the CCC or USCF simply show up at the site. The USCF now offers a special "3 month trial membership" for new players for only $15!! Note: Non-members will be preempted by CCC members who arrive before 7:45pm! |
| Explanation
of "Weekly Tournament Competition" The CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45 pm. sharp! The time control is G90 - All players who compete in tournament competition are required to be members of the United States Chess Federation. Regardless of which round(s) one chooses to enter, a player only gets credit for the game(s) he actually plays. There is no penalty for not showing up; it is simply counted as an unplayed game. - If you're running late, call me at 704-965-8931 and I'll pair you! Skyland stays open 24 hours! |

Charlotte,
NC 11-21-12: A light turnout of 16 of the most
competitive chess players in the Charlotte area
converged upon this popular
local terminal where the altruistic
management annually provides FREE Thanksgiving
Dinners (for the less
fortunate) more
commonly known as the Skyland
Family Restaurant in order to
participate in Rd:3
of Skyland XXXIX. (CCC members
got very comfortable
sitting
in
the
padded
booths and full size
tables and chairs while being
catered to by our own
personal waitress, Cindy.
Most enjoyed a
generously portioned delicious
home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot coffee and other
beverages, analyzed
on our demo board and monitored
the giant flat screen TV with the sound
turned off; open 24 hours!) (Just prior to the round,
NM Pat Sciacca
gave a brief lecture on "the Value of
the Deflecter"
which was appreciated by all).
Vying for the $100 First
Prize in  the Top Section,
the CCC's #1 player, Expert
Shawn "P Diddy" Pealer (2165) entered
the ring of 64 squares and was
quickly thrown off course by a trick variation of Alekhine's Defense
prosecuted by NM Pat "Kahn" Sciacca
(2153) who, after a decisive
middlegame, emerged victorious to
lead with 3-0.
Meanwhile, the
pride of Columbia, SC, Expert
Keith "Chuckie" Eubanks
(2107) snagged a piece for 3
Pawns against Michael
"Bolton" Kliber (2025) and finally won
after White blundered a piece
in the time scramble. In
addition, the pride of Mint
Hill, ex-member of the
NCCA Hall of Fame,
NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2010) traded
down to a lone Knight
vs. Bishop  ending
with Pawns
on both wings and
finally defeated Expert
Sulia
Mason (2016) (See Game 1117) while superhero Clarke
"Kent" Brosi (1886)
vanquished Anthony Cato
(1502). In the "C"
Section, Jesse
"James" Linker
(1486) dispatched
of "Little" Joe
Little (Unr) to lead
with 2
points. In
the Lower
Section,
"Smokin" Corey
Frazier
(1318) outplayed
Rich "Alert" Trela
(1127) to share
the lead with Anthony
Cooper each
with 2
points. In

facility was great
and
everybody was happy! We hope that more

Takes Lower Section Charlotte, NC 11-24-12: An equal turnout of 19 of the most loyal and contented holiday revelers assembled on the 7th  floor of the Dowd
"Y" in order to participate in Reserve
Angel VIII. (Every person, to a man,
had fun at this event! It's still difficult for
me to get used to the silence!)
In the Top Section, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman
(2010) dispatched of Tony "the Tiger" Cato (1620)
in Rd:1 before his celebrated encounter
with Expert Keith "Chuckie" Eubanks
(2107) in Rd:2 whereby White won a
piece but suffered because of an
undeveloped Queenside. The ensuing line
allowed the extraordinary 26...
b2!? (See Game 1118)
whereupon Black went on to win! In the
final round, Fuerstman promptly agreed to
a GM Draw with Expert Michael
"Bolton" Kliber (2025) who clobbered Bob
Moore (1700) in Rd:1  and Sulia Mason (2016) in Rd:2
each finishing =1st-2nd Place with
2.5-.5 and
pocketing $75.
In the Lower Section, Team
Monroe's Ian "Fleming" Haigler
(1528) defeated Marat Kocharyan (1445) in Rd:1, "Little" Joe Little
(Unr) in Rd:2 and Eric "Truth" Hartung
(1225) in Rd:3 to finish Clear 1st
Place with 3-0
and take home $90.
Clear 2nd Place was renewing CCC
member Marnzell "Pat" Hand (1600)
with 2.5-.5
winning $45.
