| The
Charlotte
Chess Club,
an Affiliate of the USCF
meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm
(or as early as 5:30 for some!)
at The Seafarer, 9306 Albemarle Rd. (Just past Wal-mart at Harrisburg Rd. on right) Charlotte, N.C. The club conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:20pm. The time control is G75 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top $50. "B", "C", Lower Free Entry next event. The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) NCCA ($5) membership is required. The venue guarantees a private room with plenty of tables, good lighting, great food, close parking, limited smoking in the "bar" and friendly management?! Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and join the CCC, NCCA or USCF simply show up at the site. |

NEWS & VIEWS 2-12-09Seafarer VII Begins Charlotte, NC 2-11-09: A typical turnout of 12 of the finest calculators in the Queen City converged upon this mental jousting arena more commonly known as the Seafarer (Just look for the 3-D Whale) in order to participate in Rd:1 of Seafarer VII. In the Top Section, 2008 NC Scholastic Champion Jonathon "Seagull" McNeill (1749) held off a  feisty Derek "Cats" Smith (1749) to
lead with 1-0.
In addition, the CCC's #3 player, the pride of
Mint Hill, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2011) pressed on to win
but ultimately yielded a Draw (See Game 0779)
to Charleston, SC upstart Stephen
"Lefta" Welt (1889). In the "B" Section, Asheboro promoter Tom "Terrific" Hales (1783) beat down Michael "Xan" Alexander (1458)
to lead with 1-0.
In the Lower Section, new member Kyle Harvey (Unr) upset Winfred
"Guns" Gatlin (1450) while "Smokin" Corey
Frazier (1309) bested Lee "Roger" Moore (1224) to each lead with
1-0.
In

Mabe Perfect in Quark X
Charlotte, NC
2-14-09: A grand total of 7 of the most amiable
chessplayers in the Metrolina area converged upon the Mint
 Hill Public Library in order to participate in Quark X. In the Top Section,
the CCC's #1 player, NM Chris
"the Babe" Mabe (2281)
defeated David Stamper (1850) in Rd:1,
Lucas Hausrath (1237) in Rd:2 and NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2011) in
the final round (See Game 0780) to score a
perfect 3-0
and pocket $70.
Equal 2nd-4th were Fuerstman, Stamper and Joshua Turner each with 2-1 winning $12. To
