NEWS & VIEWS 2-2-12
Skyland XXXI Begins
Charlotte,
NC 2-1-12: A light turnout of 17 of
the most contented concentrators in the county
converged upon this grand ballroom more
commonly known as the Skyland
Family Restaurant in order to
participate in Rd:1 of Skyland XXX. (CCC members
got very comfortable
sitting
in
the
padded
booths and full size
tables and chairs while being
catered to by our own
personal waitress, Cindy.
Most enjoyed a
generously portioned delicious
home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot
coffee and other
beverages, analyzed
on our demo board and monitored
the giant flat screen TV with the sound
turned off; open 24 hours!) In the Top Section,
unofficially, the CCC's
#1
player, Expert Shawn "P
Diddy" Pealer
(2133) refused
to plead guilty to Judge Slobodan Sinanovic's
totally equal R&P
ending and went ahead to win in the end.
Meanwhile, Paul
"Survivalist" Lucas
(1808) established an overwhelming position in
the middlegame with his newly found 1...Nc6! Nimzovich Defense
before retreating his queen and almost losing.
According to a witness, both players had less
than 20 seconds left on
their clock when "Wild" Bill Connell (1881)
resigned. Pealer
and Lucas
lead with 1-0. In
addition, the CCC's
#3 player, the pride of Mint Hill,
ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman
(2057) offered Draw
in a Pawn up OCB
ending versus superhero Daryl
"Flash" Gordon
(1861) who had overlooked at least 3 winning
moves (See Game 1022)
and agreed!? In the "B" Section, Dr. Ron "Dutch"
Breukelaar
(1687) secured 2 pieces for 2 pawns and
ultimately took down Bill "Mindweeder" Wright
(1687) to lead with 1-0. In
the "C" Section,
Fabian "Flaco"
Abril
(1420) beat down "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1447)
to lead with 1-0. All
welcome new CCC
members Brian Ruff and Mohnish Behera.
In order to observe
all
results see "Current Crosstable" The
facility was great
and
everybody was happy! We hope that more
players will join us next
Wednesday to dine, socialize and play
chess!
Everyone is welcome...Long live the
CCC!

Share Top Honors in Reserve Angel V
Mint Hill, NC 1-18-12: Four honored members of the
CCC Royal Guard converged upon the palatial estate of NM LF in order to
participate in Reserve Angel
V. The
$20 entry fee guaranteed 3 rounds of G60, a sandwich and the
beverage of your choice. In Rd:1,
the CCC's #3
player, the pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of
Fame, NM
Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman
(2065) played a semi-London
System versus Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1808)
who yielded one Pawn and then another before
succumbing. Meanwhile, 74 year old Judge Slobodan Sinanovic
(1876) emerged into a R&P ending that could
only result in a Draw against superhero Daryl
"Flash" Gordon
(1861). In Rd:
2, the Superhero played the White side
of a Dragon
and weathered a quick queenside storm before
upseting "Ennui Boy" with a surprise check (See Game 1020)
which destroyed the Black position!? On the
other board, the "Judge" sentenced the
"Survivalist" to Life! In the final round, Fuerstman
defeated Sinanovic (See Game 1021)
while Lucas
overlooked mate but held on to Draw Gordon allowing
the two champions to tie for =1st-2nd
Place with 2-1 and pocket
$30 each. In order to observe
all results, see "Crosstable."
The competition was fierce and a good time was
had by all. Fuerstman
directed. |
