Pealer Leads Skyland XXX
Charlotte, NC 12-28-11: A slightly weaker turnout of 16 of the most amicable competitors in the county converged upon this non-political caucus room more commonly known as the Skyland Family Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:2 of Skyland XXX(CCC members got very comfortable sitting in the padded booths and full size tables and chairs while being catered to by our own personal waitress. Most enjoyed a generously portioned delicious home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board and monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound turned off; open 24 hours!) In the Top Section, the CCC's #2 player, Expert Shawn  Pealer (2108) emerged into a dead even middlegame versus the CCC's #4 player, the pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, 2011 CCC Player of the Year, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2057) who mishandled a dubious sacrifice by Black (See Game 1007)  allowing Pealer to lead with 2-0. Meanwhile, Will Mahan (2025) successfully maneuvered his way around a weird Nimzovich Defense played by Paul "Survivalist" Lucas' (1811) while "Wild" Bill Connell (1881) outplayed "Judge" Slobodan Sinanovic (1894) (See Game 1008). In addition, superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1861) ran his clock down to nothing in a  Pawns vs. piece ending versus visitor from Germany, Jevgenija Leveikina (1760) who graciously agreed to a Draw! In the "C" Section, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1590) gained a favorable King position in a R & Pawns ending against James "Gaffer" Bourque (1442) and converted. Meanwhile, "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1447) outlasted Manfred "Mann" Vees (707). In order to observe all results see "Current Crosstable"  The facility was great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players will join us next Wednesday to dine, socialize and play chess! Everyone is welcome... Long live the CCC!
Fuerstman Perfect in Reserve Angel IV
Mint Hill, NC 12-17-11:  Four honored members of the CCC Royal Guard converged upon the palatial estate of NM LF in order to participate in Reserve Angel IV. The $20 entry fee guaranteed 3 rounds of G75, a sandwich and the beverage of your choice. In Rd:1, the CCC's #3 player, the pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2056) played a rarely seen (and risky) variation of the Sicilian Dragon versus "Wild" Bill Connell (1856) who traded his Queen for the 2 Rooks and actually whipped up a lethal counter-attack (See Game 1002) before running out of moves! (And you think chess is easy?!?) Meanwhile, Slobodan "the Judge" Sinanovic (1894) sacked the exchange against superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1861) and prevailed in the end. In Rd:2, "Ennui Boy" snagged a piece in the opening (See Game 1003) and went on to defeat the "Judge" while "Wild Bill" outplayed the "Superhero." In Rd:3, Fuerstman gained a spacial advantage in the opening versus Gordon and finally won the exchange and the game to finish clear 1st Place with 3-0 and pocket $40. Clear 2nd Place with 2-1 and winning $20 was 74 year old Judge Slobodan Sinanovic who grabbed the exchange, traded Queens and summarily won the ending versus Connell. In order to observe all results, see "Crosstable." The competition was fierce and a good time was had by all. Fuerstman directed.
