| The Charlotte
Chess Club, an Independent Affiliate of the USCF meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!) at the  Skyland Family Restaurant, 4544 South Blvd. Charlotte, NC (Just past Woodlawn Rd towards town on L) Primarily an adult club, the CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45pm. The time control is G90 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top, "B", "C", Lower. Section winners get Free Entry into next event. The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) The venue is "open 24 hours" and guarantees a private area with plenty of tables, good lighting, great food, close parking, friendly management and our own personal waitress, Cindy! (The Management requests that you purchase your meal at Skyland) Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and join the CCC or USCF simply show up at the site. The USCF now offers a special "3 month trial membership" for new players for only $15!! Note: Non-members will be preempted by CCC members who arrive before 7:45pm! |
| Explanation
of "Weekly Tournament Competition" The CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45 pm. sharp! The time control is G90 - All players who compete in tournament competition are required to be members of the United States Chess Federation. Regardless of which round(s) one chooses to enter, a player only gets credit for the game(s) he actually plays. There is no penalty for not showing up; it is simply counted as an unplayed game. - If you're running late, call me at 704-965-8931 and I'll pair you! Skyland stays open 24 hours! |

Charlotte,
NC 3-7-12: A rather light
turnout of 14
of the most careful calculators in the county
converged upon this think tank more
commonly known as the Skyland
Family Restaurant in order to
participate in Rd:1 of Skyland XXXII. (CCC members
got very comfortable
sitting
in
the
padded
booths and full size
tables and chairs while being
catered to by our own
personal waitress, Cindy.
Most enjoyed a
generously portioned delicious
home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot
coffee and other
beverages, analyzed
on our demo board and monitored
the giant flat screen TV with the sound
turned off; open 24 hours!) In
the Top Section, the
CCC's #1
 player,
Expert Shawn "P
Diddy" Pealer
(2146)
represented the Defense versus Judge Slobodan
Sinanovic (1858) by first attacking on the King
side and then clearing out the Queenside of the
courtroom for his Rooks (See Game 1037)
to prosecute a winning attack. Meanwhile, the CCC's #3
player, the pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of
Fame, NM Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman
(2064) played
the White side of a Chigorin Defense
versus Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1794) who
suicided himself with "g5" after Castling (See Game 1036)
and ultimately succumbed in the end. In
addition, "Wild" Bill Connell (1872) went to the
 wire
with Dr. Ron "Dutch" Breukelaar (1788) before
stopping the runaway freight train while
superhero Daryl
"Flash" Gordon
(1871) sacked a couple of pieces (See Game 1038)
and schooled Bill "Mindweeder" Wright (1772)
each with 1-0. In the "C" Section,
"Smokin" Corey
Frazier (1440) put on his bullet proof
vest versus Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1574) to lead
with 1-0. In
order to observe
all
results see "Current Crosstable" The
facility was great
and
everybody was happy! We hope that more
players will join us next
Wednesday to dine, socialize and play
chess!

S.C. Prevails as Eubanks, Tsao Finish Equal
1st-2nd in Reserve Angel VI Charlotte, NC 3-3-12: A rather light turnout of 9 motivated  competitors
gathered on the 7th floor in a very quiet room
at the Dowd "Y" in order to
participate in Reserve
Angel VI. Taking a
strategic half point bye in Rd:1, Columbia, SC's Expert Keith "Chucky"
Eubanks
(2116) dispatched of Matthew Green (1947) and
Expert Patrick McCartney (2089) to finish =1st-2nd with
14 year old phenom from Clemson, SC, Kevis Tsao
(1892) who Drew
McCartney in Rd:1,
got by Marnzell "Pat" Hand (1604) in Rd:2 and
defeated NM
Garrick "the Outlaw" Wells (2061) in the final
round each winning $67.50.

Crosstable) (The facility was absolutely perfect,
though this ex-NM had a difficult time getting
used to the "silence"!!) Fuerstman
