| The
Charlotte
Chess Club,
an Independent Affiliate of the USCF meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!) at the  Skyland Family Restaurant, 4544 South Blvd. Charlotte, NC (Just past Woodlawn Rd towards town on L) Charlotte, N.C. The club conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45pm. The time control is G90 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top, "B", "C", Lower. Section winners get Free Entry into next event. The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) The venue is "open 24 hours" and guarantees a private area with plenty of tables, good lighting, great food, close parking, friendly management and our own personal waitress, Cathy! (The Management requests that you purchase your meal at Skyland) Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and join the CCC or USCF simply show up at the site. |
| Explanation
of
"Weekly
Tournament
Competition" The CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45 pm. sharp! The time control is G90 - All players who compete in tournament competition are required to be members of the United States Chess Federation. Regardless of which round(s) one chooses to enter, a player only gets credit for the game(s) he actually plays. There is no penalty for not showing up; it is simply counted as an unplayed game. - If you're running late, call me at 704-293-4397 and I'll pair you! Skyland stays open 24 hours! |

A lighter turnout of 15
of the most competent calculators in the county converged upon this
grand ballroom more commonly known as the Skyland Family
Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:3
of Skyland XXIII. (CCC
members
got
very
comfortable
sitting
in
the
padded
booths
and
full
size tables and chairs while being
catered
to
by
our
own
personal
waitress,
Cathy! Most
enjoyed
a
generously
portioned
delicious
home
style meal for
a
ridiculously
low
price
($6.95!),
drank
fresh
hot
coffee
and
other
beverages,
analyzed
on
our
demo
board
and
occasionally
monitored
the giant flat screen TV with
the
sound
turned
off;
open 24 hours!) In the Top Section,
the  CCC's
#1 player, Expert Shawn
"Arlo" Pealer (2101)
played a tricky
variation of the Queen's Gambit versus the CCC's #2 player,
the pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2043) who sacrificed the  exchange and ended up with a strong Black squared Bishop
which was enough to Draw the
game (See
Game 0955) each now with 2.5-.5. Meanwhile,
"Wild"
Bill Connell (1915)
disassembled the position of Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1856). In the "B" Section, superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1789) emerged victorious
after a difficult struggle with Nate "E's" Eerenberg (1718) to lead
with 2.5-.5.
 In the "C" Section, FSC student Dr. Ron "Dutch" Breukelaar (1566) upset Bill
"Mindweeder" Wright (1703) to lead with 1 point. In
the Lower Section, Menelik Musa (975) defeated James Norman (845) to lead with 3-0. Other Lower Section winners were John Knarr
(Unr). All welcome new CCC
member Chris
McBride who split the point with "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1345). In
order to observe all results see "Current Crosstable"-

facility
was
great
and
everybody
was
happy!
We
hope
that
more
players
will
join
us next Wednesday to
dine, socialize and play chess! Everyone is
