Fuerstman, Green, Connell Lead Top; Lucas "B"; Frazier "C"; Kocharyan, Hartung Lower Section of Skyland XXXIV
Charlotte, NC 5-23-12: Another strong turnout of 20 of the most competitive chess characters in the city converged upon this think tank more commonly known as the Skyland Family Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:2 of Skyland XXXIV(CCC members got very comfortable sitting in the padded booths and full size tables and chairs while being catered to by our own personal waitress, Cindy. Most enjoyed a generously portioned delicious home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board and monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound turned off; open 24 hours!) In the Top Section, the CCC's #4 player, the pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2033) played the white side of the Benko Gambit versus unofficial Expert Matthew "the Machine" Green (1997) only to give back the Pawn for an active position, but after a lively middle game (See Game 1058) was relegated to yield the Draw and share the lead of 1.5-.5 with "Wild" Bill Connell (1905) who rose to the occasion and split the point with the CCC's #2 player, Expert Keith "Chuckie" Eubanks (2143) (See Game 1059). In addition, the CCC's #3 player, Expert Shawn "P Diddy" Pealer (2134) welcomed new member and now the CCC's highest rated player, NM Pat Sciacca (2183) to CCC tournament competition by winning one of the most curious games (See Game 1060) this NM has witnessed in some time!? In addition, superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1909) beat down Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1757). In the "B" Section, Bill "Mindweeder" Wright (1721) fired off a few barrages but was only able to Draw Marnzell "Pat" Hand (1600). Lucas leads with 1-1. In the "C" Section, "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1462) defeated Ray Drury (Unr) to lead with 2-0. In addition, Fabian "Flaco" Abril (1444) bested Bob Drury (Unr). In the Lower Section, Marat Kocharyan (1068) got by Joe Shirlen (960) to share the lead with Eric Hartung (960) each with 2-0. In addition, Rich "Alert" Trela (1289) called the flag on Manfred "Mann" Vees (700). In order to observe all results see "Current Crosstable" The facility was great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players will join us next Wednesday to dine, socialize and play one rated game of chess! Everyone is welcome. Long live the CCC!
